H suffers from crumbley (sp) hooves. He has been on FForm for about 6 months now and they are still crumbley. Do you think I have given it enough time??

I tried Keratex stuff on his hooves when I first started FForm but stopped to see which was working.

Does anyone have experiece with or solved this ??? Trouble is is that they will get worse and he will start losing shoes. FForm has helped as he is now keeping them on 6 weeks and before starting it he was only manageing 3.5 - 4 weeks !!! Which is not to good as he works.

Please help me, I promise not to post any more questions !!

Lifedata hoof disinfectant works wonders, you can order it online. It's just like hoof oil, all you have to do is paint it on every day. Be careful with Keratex, my blacksmith said you should only put it on their soles and in the nail holes (haven't used it for years though).

My tb mare has bad hooves (brittle), spoke to my farrier and he said keratex and ff both only work on specific types of problems, namely protein deficiencies and that if my mare didn't have the paticular protein deficiency that ff or keratex work on then they wouldn't help.

Mine has been on FF for nearly a year - I believe in giving it this long as it supposed to take a year for a hoof to grow down. It has certainly accelerated his hoof growth & I am sure the quality has improved. I only use keratex hoof hardener on his soles as it has a tendency to dry out the walls & make them more brittle in this weather. I do use keratex hoof & nail hole disinfectant once a week. It is supposed to strengthen the walls where there has been trauma. Squirt in the holes & cracks. Plus the best thing is my Kevin Bacons hoof dressing. I am applying every day whilst it is so dry & the difference is really noticeable & he has really bad TB feet. They look so much less brittle. I really can't recommend it enogh, but it should be applied regularly to see a result. Hope this helps?!!

my mares feet crumble but that is because they are too soft. My farrier has recommended that I continue with hoof moisturiser, the hardner just makes them snap

I have been using Effol, he recommends I try the Naf one and continue using Keratax Hoof Supplemement added to her feed

soo anoying as it seemed to work well, but I think it was just the damper weather personally. I just can't afford for him to be needing to be shod every 4 weeks

soooo confusing !!!!! I have noticed though that the ridges etc start right up by the coronary band which makes me think that nothing is going to help. It's just the way he is. Am I right in that the dry weather will make them worse ?

Such a nightmare

The dry weather always makes hooves much worse as there is no moisture in them. This is particularly difficult when said horse has bad hoof quality anyway. Short of getting them to stand in water for a period of time each day (not easy) you can only do your best for them. However, as per previous post - since applying Kevin Bacons everyday (very dry down South where my horse is) his hooves look so much better. It won't improve the quality but it has prevented further cracking.

My mare also has horrible crumbly feet which don't seem to grow! I used farriers formula for nearly a year, but my vet asked me to change to Formula for Feet which she has been on for about 9 months.
Can't say I have noticed much improvement though.

I also use the Kevin Bacon hoof dressing.

I've heard something about feeding milk pellets for bad feet but can't be more specific than that. If anyone knows more then please post!

My horse's hooves dried out really badly last summer. They cracked and split and he was forever losing shoes. They have improved over the winter with all the wet and mud and I've been using the carr, day and martin cornucrescine dressings every day for the past 3 months and they are looking good at the moment.
