I recently found out that my blacksmith is an opera singer and not just a back up, but lead tenor. And is currently rehersing for "La Traviata" (Alfredo).
He can do an impressive rendition of parts of Don Giovanni while bent double over a horses hoof, I only found out as I heard him practicing when he thought he was alone at the yard.
Talking to a friend she mentioned that her farrier shoes by week and is a high class chef in a posh resturant Fri and Sat nights, she only found out as she ran into him there.

So, I know many farriers ride in their spare time, often competing at quite high levels) but does any one else know of their farrier having special/or unexpected other talents?
If you are a farrier, feel free to own up it is nothing to be ashamed of!!! =)-

I know, not a farrier story - but was surprised to find out that a plumber that I have used on occasion was a dancer! He even named his business after a type of dance (which I was too ignorant to realise... til I asked him!).

But next time I see my farriers I'm going to ask them what THEIR hidden talents are. I bet I get an interesting answer! First time I ever "saw" one of them he was posing nude in a calendar -- for charity!

One of the lads when I was training had a fantastic voice, but would only sing if it was me and him.

He did American Pie, Don Mclean, the full version amazingly, he drove a karaoke to a stand still at matthew street festivly with his voice. AP is now my favourite song.

My farrier used to be a market gardener.

Its really useful, he always has a trip around my veggie patch when he has finished on the horses, and tells me what I need to plant\put out etc. over the next 6 weeks.

My farrier is a bee keeper, and it seems he is very well known for his bees, and producing excellent queens. Luckily he is pretty good at shoeing too...

My farrier took his kit off for a charity calendar "Farriers and their Tools".

I can confirm there is nowt wrong with his tools.

A previous Farrier of mine was Voted 2nd Most Sexiest farrier in the UK a few years ago. My current farrier is a sheep farmer, but is also a member of a top winning Gig racing Team.
