well we know what they're like some good some shockers but this is what happened to me... (could be long)

my shoes are 60.00 which is enough in its own right.
last time i had two stud holes in each front foot... 2.00 a hole so 8.00 in total.
my shoes cost 68.00

this time friend said she'd pay for my shoes as she owed me 60 odd for rug washing

oh no says farrier carmens (thats me) shoes are 65.00?????

so i phoned him protesting and he said i ALWAYS mess him about having to bring money down
confused.gif

yes i take the cash to him and put it in his hand!! i thought it was the best thing to do you know check shoeing is going ok then get back to work!

so i explained its 60.00 as i dont want stud holes... and said how last time it was 68.00
he said i was wrong it was a pound a hole so surely thats 4.00 and it should have been 69.00 (he's clearly lying)

so he then tried sweetening me up by saying he'd re shaped the stud holes back in for me as i'd had re-fits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE F*C*ING FITS!!!! for 65.00!!!!!!!!!!!

am i over reacting

i never asked for refits and i dont know how many times theyve been put on!! i do loads of road work so never wanted them

and guess what last time i asked him to com every 6-8 weeks as i was finding it too much every 6 weeks bang on

he refused saying the shoes wouldnt last (WELL MAYBE NOT I F THEYRE REFITS)
and he'd have to charge me more!!

oh and as i exclaimed "re-fits i never asked for re-fits" he said
"i'm not arguing with you" put the phone down and told someone on the yard to tell me he's nopt shoeing my horse any more
good coz the guy whos comming next time is 50.00 and 45.00 for refits and he's taken a few more customers on than me

Sounds like miss-communication to me.

My shoes are £72.00 a set.

£60.00 or even £68.00 is a bargin..........

the best farrier around here that seems the most expensive, and is a training farrier, is only 50, 45 for refits!

Mine are £58 for normal shoes, £64 for natural balance, and although i have to phone AT LEAST three weeks in advance so we can both get a time to suit he is an excellent farrier!

Just curious, do you not all make your next appointment when the farrier is with you? That way, he knows where he stands and you know you are getting the farrier when you need him.

Yep. Why would you do it any other way?

we had no choice he came every 6 weeks on a day that suted him... if you couldnt be there/ afford it (happend to others but thankfully not me) or in one case just no one on the yard told you

well you had to wait another 6 weeks

i cant believe what some of you pay that is ridiculous

my horse is a horse she has good feet and just need plain shoes and im not paying 65.00 for them

friends horse has navicular so she has to be carefull who shoes her mare so i understand that

I would pay £100 each time my horse was shod quite happily - I pay for and expect good service. I get it. A lot of people clearly don't.

Interestingly you say you wouldn't pay £65.00 for your horse to be shod - but I wonder if you would pay that amount for something related to your horse that was totally useless - or just a fashion accessory.

due to that sarky remark i'd just like to say if my farrier had said
its now 65.00 for shoes i wouldnt have argued

my main point here is i hav thought for the past year iv had new shoes everytime

i never asked for refits and i dont think they should have been put on without asking me

in which case i would have expected to pay a little less.

I used to pay £75 a set and my farrier set the time scale - every 6 weeks going down to 5 weeks in the summer (which I actually agree with as don't like leaving them too long anyway)

My mare's barefoot trimmed now, so cheaper, but still £42 every 6 weeks (yes I know farriers are cheaper, but no decent ones around for trimming when I wanted one)

and we're not all in the situation of
if its what i want i'll pay what it takes to get it\

and i dont think i was getting good service

are to trying to insinuate that because i wont pay over the top prices i cant possibly care enough for my horse?

im 21 full time uni student and MUMMY doesnt pay for my horse I DO

and i work around uni for 6.00 and hour i pay for EVERYTHING

more goes on my horses livery than my own rent for MYSELF

I leave it up to my farrier if he thinks the shoes are in good enough condition to be re-fitted or not. if they are, i'm more than happy to have them put back on, saves me a few bob!

Good grief woman - calm down!!

No I am not insinuating that you don't want the best for your horse. And having seen pictures of her - she is clearly being very well looked after by you. She looks fantastic.

I agree that £65.00 for re-fits sounds a lot. I think we got crossed wires somewhere along the post.

My point was (not very well made) that people tend to complain about the cost of things like farriers and are very quick to change farriers if they think they charge too much - even if they get an exemplary service. However these same people will not think twice about going out and paying stupid money for things that they either don't need for the horse (ie. another rug, the latest gadget or fashion accessory) without considering how the money may be better spent.

God knows I don't have money to throw around either.

As a 40 year old woman MUMMY hasn't paid for my horse since I was a child. It's all down to hard work and hard graft by me!

I pay £61 and that is it - new, or refits on the front or refits on the back. Do I care? No. The farrier does a good job - no foot no horse.

Your not 40?!

Hb

i do quite a lot of roadwork so refits wouldnt suit me. Id change farriers like a shot if the expensive £50 farrier was taking on more clients but he's not, however cant complain about the current chap as my horse likes him and he does a nice job but he shoes cold and id prefer hot shoeing.

i only get the front done on bracken as she dont need the back, shes not worked its just to help raise her feet of ground as typical TB has flat feet!! my farrier charges £27 for new or £24 for re-fits, he will phone me few days before she is due even though appointments are made on day he does bracken he will trim her back feet as well, this is included in the prices as well, if you just have trim like i used to is only £15! for full set think he charges £50 for new unsure what is for re-fit but is few pounds less!! he makes his shoes if needed and will spend as long as needed with the horse!! bracken has before today thrown a shoe the day he put it on, god knows how!!, i phoned him and he was back down the next mornin and put new shoe on for free!! has even put a new shoe on when shes thrown them ofter 3 weeks of wear again no charge!!.........and hes famous!! he was the drummer for the band The Christians!!

My farrier is now back of his hols THANK GOD!!! Fly is so proficient at getting his shoes off (5 times in 4 weeks)! This is a new 'talent' of his. (Not my farriers fault, used 2 others whilst he was away and guess what...lasted a few days)!! However, my farrier came the next day that i left a message and replaced a rear shoe with two stud holes and never charged me. He is reliable, very good and is always within 10 mins of appointment or he will phone. Mind you, how long this will last with Fly's new habit of shoe chucking I do not know!
