My gelding was shod yesterday and the farrier has left his toes still about 1-2cm over the shoe! She said this is how its supposed to be although hes never been shod like this before! She is coming tomorrow to fix them as she also left clenches unclamped!

Is there truth in what she is saying?

So she is coming back to finish the job:confused: or was it left on purpose, the clenches should not be left as the shoe will possibly come off or more worrying the horse could cut itself.

Fronts or hinds?!

Either way it is perfectly acceptable to have an over hang though it would be about 1cm for double clipped fronts and up to 2 for hinds.

It's better for hind shoes to be fitted under the toe as this helps prevent overreaching.

OMG I suppose she is qualified?? The over hang is one thing but leaving the clenches is a no no. Why ever is she coming back to finish a job that would only take another five minutes. I'd get another farrier if I were you.:(
