I've ridden my 17 year old pony for 3 years now and throughout this time I've noticed just how much he passes gas! He's in competitive work and comfortably competes 90-100cm and trains round 110cm courses at home, but over many jumps he lets off wind! At many times it is funny, but can be quite embarrassing at shows, does anyone know why he does this or how to control it, we've tried fennel but nothings changed!? It never affects the way he jumps or changes his rhythm, it's almost like his 'fart power!':D

Have you tried mint? I had a similar companion pony, and I was feeding mint and after some time I suddenly noticed that he didn't do it any more. It took a time, didn't happen overnight. Mint is quite cheap and I was buying it in big bags, and I was adding to the feed as I was also giving him MagOx which isn't very palatable.

he's just jet propelled! Sorry :P

I've never heard the mint thing, must give it a go myself. I've had some success with my mare her windy pops with fennel seeds.

wonder if this would work for my husband :D

Its the build up of gas in the colon and its thought to be because feed is being digested rapidly and the bacteria in the gut has changed. Wind is a result of this.Activated charcoal is meant to be quite effective for promoting a calm digestive system! Also something like pink powder which will also help with promoting 'friendly' bacteria in the gut.
