As above, my mare is going into horspital on Thursday evening for this. She did her suspensory ligament three months ago and has been on box rest after having blocks, xrays, scans, shockwave etc and has not improved at all!

So she'll be in horspital until Sunday (

Just wondered if anyone's horse has been through this, she's having the nerves cut in both back legs! (can't find a horse wheelchair anywhere! lol!)

Will she be bandaged up? I know she will be on box rest for ages but how long was yours in for?

How long have they been sound for since the operation?

I'm hoping to return her to showjumping as before - Discovery level. Vet seems to be very positive about it but also think she'd tell me this to avoid the awkward moment of me bursting out crying everytime she mentions the 1% chance something bad could happen lol x

My horse had this op nearly three weeks ago. Andy Bathe did it at Rossdales. The prognosis for it when done in the hinds is really positive. Nickel was in Horspital from Wednesday (day of the op) until the following Monday, he then came home on full box rest and had his bandages changed every other day until the Friday of that week. He then had to wear just stable bandages for the next week, now he is naked legged. He started hand walking two weeks post op, 5 mins twice a day rising to 15 minutes twice a day after three weeks and then he has to go back into Rossdales for reassessment.

Aww thanks Laafet x you were able to start walking him out quite quickly then? x How long do they think it'll be until he can be ridden out? x I've been told she'll probably be back in action for Spring but i guess it depends how the re-assessements go? x I dont know what they mean by 'back in action' either?! lol x can't wait for her to be fixed!! x

Icharles, Hope all goes well with op. Mine had op in August, bandages were off in a week. on box rest and walking in hand starting at 10 mins a day and building up to 30 mins by end of 3 weeks then reviewed. My only advice would be to take care when you eventually get to the turn out stage as despite sedation my boy went mad and injured himself again, damage to fetlock joint and is now still on box rest.

Actual op appeared to be very successful and when we get over the second problem hope to return to competing, dressage and even showing as the swelling at back of hocks is going down quite dramatically.

Good luck hope all goes well :)

ooo sounds promising then :) x

She's been in for 8 weeks already so have turned her out this week cuz she's getting evil in her stable! x thought she could go out on her own (hoons about with my gelding!) She's out until Thursday evening when she goes in for her operation then box rest, i am worried about her hooning about when she comes off box rest because not only is it all very exciting for her but she's also boss in her field so will go back in trying to 'prove' she's still boss by charging at my gelding so will have to split them up to start with or put her out on her own until she's over the excitement of being out!! x Do they usually sedate them when they initially go out?

Glad yours is on the mend though!! x :D
