Hi I have two barefoot cobs and a pony with front shoes on. Pony decided to lose both shoes this month and I have decided to keep her without. She also has sweetitch.
Seen many posts on here about Fast Fibre. Currently feed a few high fibre nuts in a ball and Happy Hoof.
Can anyone tell me whether Fast Fibre is pelleted or is it a chaff looking feed?
Hoping removing all molassed feed will assist with sweetitch as well as helping transition to no shoes.
Are there any other similar feeds I can give if I can't get hold of Fast Fibre?
Thanks

If you're removing molasses do you know you need to ditch the Happy Hoof? Not sure if thats what you meant from the original post!

Fast fibre is little pellets you soak and it instantly turns into a mash, v quick no waiting around.

Tiger Tail yes wanting to ditch the Happy Hoof but looking for something to replace it sounds like Fast Fibre will work.
Would the high fibre nuts still be ok? Usually get Scats (Mole Valley Farmers) own but have thrown bag away so can't check contents until I go feed shopping again.

hi we have a mare who gets sweet itch that is mainly caused by sugar. We use simple solution feeds. We also found that she suffered badly and scratched her face to shreds when we used glycerine based saddle soap on her bridle. We now use Effol and her face is fully covered with fur.

For chaff, try Dengie Hi-Fi Unmollased for your two boys.

Not sure about sweet-itch and alfalfa though.

Most pony nuts contain molasses or moglo, also most chaff.
Try micronised linseed meal, a coffee cup a day, will help skin and feet.
You can replace FF with non molassed sb pulp but you need to add a broad spec mineral and vitamin supplement.
Sponge down face and sweaty areas with Barrier anti itch wash after exercise. I also use Barrier Lavender wash, smells lovely and is a mild disinfectant, good for tired legs.

Thanks for the advice guys I'll go take a look at all the feeds suggested at the weekend as nearly out of everything I currently have anyway.

Fast fibre does contain garlic, so might be a no-no for your SI horse. I feed veteran vitality in the winter. It has linseed, yea-sacc and all the good stuff in FF, without the garlic! Soak time is 3 mins, but I do it overnight, or before I leave the house (making it up at home, then taking it with me).
