Does anyone have any info on this feed suppliment and have any idea where I can find some further info? Also for those who have had horses diagnosed with ulcers how long were they on the gastroguard before they cleared? Including Glandual ulcers - Horse diagnosed with grade 3 about 4 weeks ago? how has life been for you after the GG...

Fastrack just looks like an american probiotic supplement for horses - I am sure you can buy something similar over here!

Mine had G4 splash and glandular ulcers. 4 weeks of 1 syringe of GG a day with pepto bismol and antepsin tablets cleared up the splash ulcers but did not touch the glandular ones and there was no improvement in the clinical signs (which manifested themselves as a loss of performance). He then had to have another 4 weeks of GG with antibiotics to clear up the glandular ones, then stayed on a quarter of a tube of GG a day until the insurance money ran out. He had massive diarrhea issues from the antibiotics, took over a year to get him right from that, which we did with the help of silverliningherbs (nothing the vet gave me touched it, he even did biopsies, no joy).

Two years on and he is absolutely right as rain. I will give GG as a precautionary measure (so he did a 3 day this year and I shoved him on GG for 4 days before and the duration of the event, and he had it through a period of box rest too).

Generally though, I just feed Pure Feed Co feeds, have him on Ulcer Calm by Feedmark (because it is as close as you can get to the only supplement which has been through clinical trials, but is a fraction of the price), and give him ad lib haylage.

There is a GG alternative which has some interesting research beind it, made by boehringer, called Equitop Pronutrin. DOes work out a bit cheeper, probably worth discussing with your vet?

Thanks for replies guys much appreciated, clare interesting as in good or interesting as in bad lol? I will have a word with them about it xx

I have read the papers too, and really think the study size was very small, and for the cost of the product (it still works out about £100 a month) there are other options which are very similar, and cost significantly less!
