Fat dog...

You know you have a problem when your dog loses the best part of half its weight and still looks fat

Poor Barney, may he find a happy home soon!

From reading the article, it looks as though they started with advice but the owner didn't stick with it:

"Green was warned about the dog's diet, but he failed to maintain Barney's weight loss and his condition worsened until he became dangerously overweight"

Oh - forgot to add - for the RSPCA (or any other charity) to seize an animal they need a vet to agree that the animal is suffering. So it could well have been the case that they couldn't get a vet to do this until poor Barney was in a real state

The timeframe for failing to respond to an enforcement notice is considerably shorter than 18 months.

But what I'm saying is, it sounds like he tried then failed. We don't know how long things were going well for before they went downhill again.

Its disgusting. I have two dalmations one of whom is almost 12 years old. He weighs 28kg, exactly the same now as he did in his very early years when I used to show him. The other one is ten years old and weighs 37kg, he's lean and muscly just a very huge dalmation. When people find out how old they are they cant believe how good they look. I'm proud of how good my dogs look I just wish everyone would look after their pets, after all they would live much longer and give their owners a lot more back!

God this drives me mad - the poor poor dog would have far more pleasure from being taken for a stonking good walk than being fed crisps and chocolate.

Once, at Badminton, someone told me off for having a too slim dog and that really riled me - the dog in question is a pointer, therefore a naturally slim breed. At the time he was young and super fit so he was made of muscle but you couldn't see his ribs although you could feel them clearly if you patted him. I was so shocked at being told to feed my dog properly when vets congratulate me on having 3 slim and fit dogs. Some people just don't have a clue, and it's a great shame when, like this case, the dog suffers as a result. One of the pointers weighs 25kg, the other, a bitch, weighs about 23kg and the springer spaniel weighs about 23kg but we watch his weight quite carefully, as, given the opportunity, he'd choose to look like this dalmatian.

This and also feeding it chocolate after all the warnings against. Was he trying to kill the animal. Every dog-owner should know chocolate contains theobromine which is harmful to dogs, and fatal in large quantities.

It's either genuine stupidity or active malice to continue to give the dog chocolate and the rest of the rubbish.

Should the idiot be allowed care of an animal when they repeatedly fail to listen to advice eitherway?
