GOD. Never mind it coming in threes, it has come in seventeens this last few weeks!

ANYWAY. Moved my horses onto their original field last night as I needed to move the electric in their current one as I am strip grazing. Their original field has been sprayed and is VERY green, not long, just green.

So I rock up again this evening to find the two of them with swollen jaws, brill, both fine in themselves so not to worry.

Now I assume that this is something to do with the grass, i.e. lushness/the fact they haven't had their heads up all night long?

Both scoffed their tea, and are now back out on the strip grazed paddock grazing away happily.

Enlighten me!?

No need to worry, this used to happen to ours a lot when they moved onto new grass and basically stuffed their faces!
As PonyFeet10 says, it's something to do with the sugars in the grass and the horse being sensitive to it.
Short, very green grass is the worst for this!

Thanks for confirming this! They are fine back on the other paddock today (well they are in ATM as my poor shire x is sweating like a moose in this heat!)

Some people call it 'grass glands', mine gets it as soon as the grass seems to come thru. I call it hamster cheeks. He gets it either between his jaw and neck or under his jaw so there's no definition to his chin or literally on his cheeks or a combination of all 3! it can look quite alarming but as long as he's happy and eating and drinking i dont worry too much. It's always gone by morning.
