A plea to all owners of "good doers" or horses that appear to live on fresh air PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get bloods done for equine metabolic syndrome and chusings.

The expense now could SAVE your horses life, and you from having to endure the tut tut tut brigade of when your poorly horse (its like being a diabetic) goes down with lami - even though you have been working and dieting it for months !

This is interesting my mare is in her mid 20s and she is very overweight she's been on a small paddock for last couple of months but she's huge ( she is retired in the last year due to back problems ) and she has fat pockets. I just thought she came out of winter well.. I've tried lunging her , she's on a paddock with hardly any grass and I bring her in every day for 8 hours with a small net!! I can't get the weight off !! I have discussed with vet and farrier but they just say diet her! Which I Do but the weight is not shifting!! X

Dosen't just apply to older horses, my just turned 8yr old has just been diagnosed Insulin Resistant/Equine Metabolic this wk after coming down with Lami completely out of the blue last week. Yes he is overweight but he isn't obese, is worked regulary etc etc etc, unfortunately with the growing season all over the place this yr, it's all gone t*its up for many ponies.

Making sure they have fibre going through them all the time too!

Like humans that starve themselves they hang on to fat if they don't get enough to eat.

Always have well soaked hay to give them
