My cob came in with a fat, hot off hind fetlock today. No sign of cuts or mudfever so I am assuming he has just twisted/sprained it. Vet advised to leave him in for a couple of days with stable bandages and also to cold hose, however our tap doesn't work at the moment so I can't!
What can I do instead, ice pack?

oh thats just typical isn't it!! and just before the weekend too!! well ice pack it is then unless you happen to have a running stream close by or the sea?? or are you anywhere near a horse spa?? i had a horse years a go came in from the field like that and so cold hosed 4 times a day and he was ok . is there anyone that can fix your tap you must be able to get water from somewhere? or a cold poultice might help ?? umm cant think of anything else i would do apart from pray for a foot of snow tonight and then stand in that!!

YO's ex is looking at the tap tomorrow, we think maybe a pipe has burst somewhere down on the yard that supplies our water as it was fine before the snow. At the moment we are bringing water up from home twice a day. Ice pack it is then, thanks :)

oh no how annoying remember to only leave ice pack on for 20 mins though i am sure you already know that!! or you could try ice tight over night that may help ??

Carr & Day & Martin Ice Blue Leg Cooler is good, my boy came in from the field in the summer with a swollen knee. I put it on everyday when he came in and it went down within a couple of days. :)

Possibly a divvy question here but as he is a cob do I get 2 icepacks for the whole joint or just one for the back? :o

Ha ha! I'd do both sides - perhaps buy a big bag and then split into two freezer bags so you can make a sausage shape and wrap it all the way round? Personally I'd go with petit pois but not the minted ones in case he chews it..:D
