Each year when the fields get to wet we move the neds onto a 40x60 concrete courtyard and small mud paddock (lunge area size) for a few weeks and they live of haylage. Not small but no room for a gallop.
When i bought the yearling and 2yo in today they had super fat swollen legs. Yearling appeared lame but after washed and picked out feet looked better. The big 2yo however got a hibiscrub and no mud fever or thrush which he has suffered from last year. I took him for a walk in the school and then chased him around a little and I thought when I finished after 10 mins they had decreased. But was I just seeing what I wanted to see.
So what would cause legs to fill out? To much standing around - not enough blood flow? To much protein in the haylage? Eating the straw in the stables?
Can it cause much/any damage? Should I get them moving daily.
