Hi
This post is to get feedback from more experienced folk, am I on the right lines?
(She is not really fat )
My mare moved to the Isle of Man in June of this year, prior to that she was a happy hacker 4-6 days a week at 30 mins- 3 hours a time, and remained sound. I joined her in August and found her a little foot sore, very stony ground, so kept her off work until I moved her to her hopefully permanent yard 2 months ago. She was sound on arrival then went foot sore again and the new farrier- a good one
- found bruising on fore corns so this was addressed as well as having a Bowen Practitioner to see her. So all proceeded well , she is sound again Yippeee.
Two weeks ago I started leading her out for 15 mins on alternate days and last week commenced ridden work at WALK ONLY at 15 min, 20 min, 25 min, 30 min and today 35 mins ! She is sound and happy, fingers crossed...
My plan is to build up to 45 mins over the next week, then 1 hour the following etc so in 6 weeks time she is fit and sound for a 2 hour hack STILL IN ACTIVE WALK ONLY .
Following this at 5 days a week on/ 2 days off a week(not taken together)
How does this sound?
If all is then well how should I proceed with starting trotting work ?
My primary ambition is to have her willing and able for a 3 hour fun ride again !!!
Thanks for any comments, they will be appreciated
