I've had a letter from a microchip company stating that mine are from a batch known to have faults. They say the vet will come out to check and put another in if no chip is found (i.e. it's not working) free of charge. Anyone else had this?

Frankly, it is an annoyance and more time and work, though I do appreciate that mistakes happen. My scanner won't pick up the chip, so presumably it's faulty. Anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts?

I noticed my gelding's chip was not reading earlier this year - guess what? It has the faulty batch code but I haven't had a letter.
My vet has faxed off copies of the Backhome certificate and we are waiting for what next.

The PIO hasn't got back to me either as of course the passport needs to be changed.

I had my horse chipped approx 15 years ago, then a few years ago, decided to have the micro mark brand done, when they came to do this, they couldn't find the chip, so she had to be redone (at my expense!).

Have you checked to make sure that its not moved? They do despite what people say move about. If you have the opportunity to have it changed I probably would if its not more than an inconvenience better safe than sorry.

I would have thought the consequential loss ought to be covered, but by whom?

It probably won't inconvenience me too much, but if someone has 100 ponies on the hill....

As soon as I realised my vet did not have a problem using my own chips, I used them (I bought in bulk for chipping my own dogs). The faulty one is the last chip supplied by my vet! Typical! My own have been sitting on the shelf for years and are still good.

Unfortunately Microchips do stop working from time to time. It's best to ask your vet to check the chip at the yearly vaccinations.

This concerns a letter from the manufacturers stating that one of the chips to me by my vet is from a defective batch. I've checked the pony and sure enough, no chip can be found.
