What's your favourite equine charity? I've been asked to put together a short list of charities from which a business will select its 2012 nominated charity.

I'm also working on a survey which will make a charity donation for x number of completed questionnaires, so there's a double opportunity for your charity of choice.

I can think of a couple, after which my mind has gone blank!! (Monday morning :) )

Thanks in advance!

http://www.sportsdrivingunlimited.org.uk/ In my opinion sports driving unlimited and Amanda Saville at Chariots of fire deserve special recognition for all the work they do. I have never met anyone more dedicated or enthusiastic than Amanda. She has touched the lives of so many disabled people and given them the feeling of freedom and mobility through the fun and excitment of carriage driving. She gives so much and never asks for anything in return. The usual large charities that we are familiar with have more funding and exposure than you can shake a stick at and the people they employ do very well out of it (as they should of course as they are all very skilled people)

If you met Amanda and saw the work she does with disabled chidren it would touch your heart in ways that no other charitable organisation has before.

That is just me though.

The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust- they work with the local communities in the markets, schools and have set up a pony/donkey club for the kids to teach proper handling and care. They work with the major UK and international vet schools to provide training to our future vets and vet nurses buy getting them to work for 6 months in their main centre in the Gambia!

Bransby:)

I am biased but it is local to me and my cob is 'fostered' from there. Her foal/gelding is also fostered from there - she was an RSPCA prosecution case that they rehabbed:eek: - was 2 years old an in foal, tethered to the side of a dyke:eek:

They were also fantastic with their support and help with the Rescue of Carrot & Spud:)

Their work is pretty much all neglect/RSPCA work - there is no room for 'retirees' there:(

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary in Devon. They are lovely kind people who not only give general horse advice but also 'rescue and rehabilitate' many. Most are hill ponies, but they also accommodate every other breed, even shires! They also now have a 'retired' section, where the horses live a pampered life of horse luxury and every horse is an individual.
I loaned a pony from them, fab pony. They have a good re-homing scheme, you don't pay a fortune to loan them, which in my eyes appeals to more people who can offer horses a home without spending a fortune in doing so.
