It is yes but I don't use it that much and what is the alternative? I can't stand the greasy pig oil that people use thats awful.

I picked up a bottle of Carr Day & Martin Mane & Tail out of my box a couple of weeks ago. Sprayed it liberally onto the stallions mane and tail, left it for a few mins to settle in then started brushing it out. I couldn't figure out why it was so oily! I thought it was maybe because I hadn't used it in a year and it had separated. I then did the Colts mane and tail. 3 days later when they both still looked like I had dipped in them in a grease pit I remembered I had filled my then empty bottle of M&T with pig oil back in the spring to make it easier to apply to feathers ???

Whoops!

Love the Eqyss survivor serum, it’s not cheap but it smells amazing and a little really goes a long way. It makes mane and tails so soft and shiny and not greasy at all. One bottle lasts me ages.

I make my own with cheap coconut human hair conditioner, cider vinegar, fractionated coconut oil and water. I buy the ingredients from Lidl and the coconut oil in a big bottle online and it works out much cheaper than buying from a tack shop. With a cob living out 24/7 I get through quite a lot of it.

I use the Cowboy Magic serum, too. I only apply it once a week or so and buy the largest bottle they do. The price is eye watering, but my previous favourite (Canter Mane and Tail) doesn't come close and CM lasts longer as I use it less often. Also can't stand pig oil. It seems to attract dirt, rather than repel it on cob feathers, so they go yellow.

I thought it was just me! I couldn't work out what I was doing wrong...I washed him, dried him, put pig oil on, and within five minutes of pottering around in the grooming pen his legs were orange again - except with pig oil on, it won't brush out. And this is a cob who hardly has any feathers  Any alternatives to pig oil gladly welcomed

Mind blown - I'd always thought that Canter Mane and Tail was it and that's what I've used for years. Sounds like I need to give Cowboy Magic a go!

I've also used furniture polish in the past but M&T was far better.

If you're on a budget, coconut oil is a great detangler and makes their tails lovely and shiny (and also smells nice)!
I always brush through coconut oil after washing my mare's mane and tail.
I do use Canter as well, never tried Cowboy Magic.

Same. I thought I was doing something wrong. Even double checked I hadn't used the one with Sulphur. I sold it to another livery in the end (had bought 2.5 L as cob has masses of feather, mane and tail).

Make sure it's the serum. They also do a spray which isn't half as good.

Well, every day’s a school day! What is this magic you all speak of? I’ve been a NAF Mane and Tail spray girl for years but when mini hairy cob arrived, I found I was going through gallons. Someone recommended baby oil, which seems to do the job, but I’m now off to Google serums! I didn’t know such a thing existed!
