As per title, what are your favourite hunting quotes? I came across this one today and was wondering what other gems are out there!

" With the wind in my face and the scent on the ground, by God it is good to go hunting again. So with the hounds in front let's be off and waste not a second..."

To put my foot in the door I provide the following...not to sure its a direct quote but it is one of my favourites 'alleged quotes" anyway

Molly, Lady Cusack Smith for many years master of the Galway Blazers, arrived back from the hunt one day with her horse covered in sweat and obviously exhausted.

In reply to the groom, who said
"Jaysus Maam you have him in a terrible lather" was a classic.

"So would you be my good man if you had been between my thighs for the last four hours"

mine is a little more personal to me...

As a kid our hunt Chairman was also field master, and he was a good friend of my parents. About 2 weeks before the ban came in, whilst standing over looking the best bit of our country, in glorious, late winter sunshine... he says to me, and a couple of other people standing near by...

"If this ban goes ahead, I will not continue. I'll never hunt under a ban"

this wonderful man who'd done so much for the hunt, died suddenly about 10 days later, just as the ban came into place. I for one still miss him, though he'd be in his mid 70's by now.

Fiagai, I am old enough to have known Lady Cusack Smith, once met and having hunted with her and Sir Dermot in my youth, never forgotten.

I recollect them as not only being thrusters but thunderers as well. Riding outstanding horses, all of considerable size.

Your quote is wholly correct supported by a variety of sources.

However my favourite is that of two of my cousins when hunting with the Vine many years ago and allowed out together at a relatively young age, because they could look after one another.

Upon arriving home, 'Mummy enquired of their day' and they informed her not only had they had an excellent day but the master had spoken to them.

"Really" said their mother, "what did the master say". Their reply in unison, "have you seen the fox". And what did you say, "no", and the master's said, "well why the b..... h... not!". All in unison and clearly well rehearsed - they were extremely precocious.
