Feather mites and lime wash

Yep, your are right its made by dermapet and its called sulphated lime dip I think. My mare is extremly prone to feather mites. We clip her legs out every 2 weeks, apply the lime dip once a week and every 2-3 months she has a dectomax injection. The combination of all this seems to keep them at bay. frontline sray made her skin red and inflamed but Ive had no problems with the lime dip. I think it acts as a deterent to the mites. The only think I did notice is that it can dry the skin a little in summer (use udder cream to moisturise ocassionally) and through winter dampening the legs with cold wate chapped the skin so I use luke warm water now. :-)

You dampen the legs first. The stuff is in concentrate form in the bottle so I put 25ml in an old robinsons juice bottle and fill up with water to make 1 litre of soluition. I then sponge this onto the legs to make sure they are all wet. She is clipped so 1 litre of solution does all four legs but if your horse is hairy you may need to make up more. I then leave the stuff to dry onto the legs, no need to rinse.
