Hello , I have a few events coming up and would like to turn up looking like my horse hasn't been dragged from a swamp !
All of our fields are suffering from the dreaded welly sucking mud . My boy is dripping with feather , currently coated in clarts . I bath him the day before the event , swaddle him with equichaps and snuggy hood and body for bed . With a big fresh fluffy clean bed . Day of event I spend time on morning attempting to remove the stains he inevitably picks up during the night . Then off we go with a clean horse. Ordinarily, I'd turn him straight out when we get back . There are a few events coming up where I'm booked for Saturday and Sunday . I'd really rather he was turned out for fun and grazing with his field mates . Don't think he'd be best pleased being put in his stable . Problem is , he'd come in like a complete scruff and I don't have the energy to do a full bath again .
So , I wondered , is there any product out there that will protect his feather , as that's what's hard to get clean again , I can hot cloth the rest of him . He gets pig oiled but that doesn't look clean .
Can you get some sort of gaiter , or have you made one ? I've tried mudsocks but even the xl are too small for him . He's a big boned chunky boy . I thought maybe some sort of waterproof material with Velcro at top , slackish elastic at the bottom . Can you help ? How the dickens do you keep your feather show ready ? Thankyou kindly for reading my ramblings, and any advice you can offer .
Much obliged HM .

I’ve used these over bandages for turnout when my horse was coming back from injury. They were a godsend keeping bandages dry and mud free. Also seen them used over boots to keep them clean when hacking. Could potentially also be used to keep the bulk of feather clean?
