Hi everyone,

I am home in my own bed, nursing my poor broken ankle/leg. I am feeling rather sorry for myself but would like to thank you all for your kind messages and a special thank you to MrsElle who has sent me lots of texts and emails and little messages from the horses and a gorgeous vase with flowers and a floaty balloon!!

I am in a bit of a bad way though and will be for 6 weeks. Just hope that the plate and pin knit things together nicely and that maybe one day I can return to riding and dance in my free time.

All a bit scary and I have gone off horses completely

I hope that this is not permenant....

Take care and rest as much as possible. I'm sure your love of all things horsey will come back as you heal

I have a lovely bruise in the shape of electric fence wire across the back of both knees, where I turned to run and it hit me and flung me up in the air - no joke!!

It just makes you realise how powerful they are, especially when things go wrong!

My mum has a very similar Xray to that, from a few years ago, she slipped down the garden path and smashed into the kitchen wall she's 100% now rushing round like a nutter and back at the top of the national ten pin bowling league, so hope yuor feeling better soon and there is light at the end of a very dingey tunnel, mum was well in her 50's when this happened and i'm guessing thats older than you

It's not the horses you should be worried about .... it's the electric fence

Seriously though, I hope it all knits nicely and that you're up and about soon.

Poor you!! Fingers crossed for a full recovery!

I am not sure how you got hurt, but I had a youngster panic and run through the electric, he took the fence with him, which got wrapped around my legs and threw me to the ground. I was so lucky I did not get tangled up in it because he pissed off trailing everything behind him, but it all happened so quickly and the shock of being swept off and thrown down was quite impressive!

Oh dear that's no good!

I broke my ankle in July and have a few helpful tips! Elevation is key to everything!

The higher the better.... at all times!
grin.gif
Sat down or in bed - keep your leg elevated! I have done extremely well with my swelling - my surgeon is really impressed, I practically had my leg over my head I had it that high!
cool.gif
I used a cube bean bag and pillows! Don't be tempted to have it down for a short while, keep it up and keep it high! I put my foot on the dash board when I go in the car to keep the swelling down!
grin.gif
I have hired a wheel chair with a leg support from the Red Cross so I can still get out and about - would have been lost without it!
grin.gif

Eat well - really well - plenty of dairy products, this will help your bone heal. I am on a cheese and chocolate diet lmfao (laugh my FAT a$$ off)
smirk.gif
I also take Seven Seas Advanced Joint Care supplement - it has glucosamine, omega 3 and chrondroitin in! Bought a bulk lot off ebay so it worked out really cheap!

Just recently purchased a 'Back on track ankle support' - it's magnetic and helps with the healing process and blood circulation.

Maybe worth looking into when you get your pot off!

What did you break - your fibula? Have you ever broken anything before? Hope you have a speedy recovery but don't rush it, be a good girl and do as the surgeon says and you will be reeeeeeeet! xx

hope you feel much better soon, and i think you will love horses again soon my pony kicked me in the stomach when i was 13 (accident) and split my intestines and broke my shoulder i lost so much blood through internal bleeding the doctors thought i was going to die!! but whilst recovering in hospital my friend brought my other pony to see me in his cart and i was allowed down in a wheelchair and i just wanted to get on him!!
Needless to say i was up the stables the day i was out of hospital to see my gee gees and my mum came up 3 weeks later to see me riding my mare who kicked me back down the lane with a sling on my arm and bent double, she wasn't impressed!
Anyway point of my long post was you will be fine horses are a bug once you've been bitten there's no turning back!! speedy recovery!!

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

A good few years back, Fleur gave me both barrels and sent me into orbit at a show and I was in hospital with suspect broken pelvis. Luckily my fat saved me.

I too was a bit nervous for a while - this was the first and so far last time I have been really hurt by a horse. Take your time and get slowly back into the swing - funny thing was, I was fine on the ground where I actually had been hurt, but nervous riding her.

Mine was a freak accident, she did a huge leap, span and kicked out on the lunge and I managed to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

Plenty of pain killers, keep the leg up and have people look after you and let yourself be pampered for a while.

Thank you so much for this advice!! I have had it up mostly but keep trying to get up and do things. I went to visit the little monster today, he looked rather sheepsih( if a horse can do that) when sniffing my crutches, then went back to his dinner. He doesn't care at all!

I just hope it all heals well so will be doing the thins mentioned in your post Rudey - mainly focusing on the cheese and choclate bit.

ooooo I could elevate my leg on piles of cheese and chocolate! two birds, one stone POW!!!

My mate broke her ankle 2 years ago, back then it wasn't very serious, she didn't need an operation, just had it potted. She was told to keep it elevated and non weight bearing for only 4 weeks... She didn't listen
shocked.gif
after 2 weeks she started walking on it. She even rode her pony in pot, and fell off the drop!
crazy.gif
Anyway, 2 years on she is paying the price for not following the doctors orders!
frown.gif
She has trashed her ankle and they are having to operate and cut and re-wire her ligaments - she has a 50/50 chance it could go either way
crazy.gif
So I learnt from this, and I have been a very good girl!!! xx
grin.gif

Hope you heal well! If there's anything you want to ask, I can tell you my experiences up until now! xx
