Hi All, I have a very hairy Cob that I am looking to show in about 4 weeks time. I have got him out of teh filed last week and looked at his feet and thought I best make a start on them, ty and make life a little easier for myself. I think I may have gone product overload, but I still can not get teh feathers white. I'm pulling my hair out!!

I have put a mix of tessamae Deep Cleansing, Vanish, and the Blue fairy (and even teh Green Platinum one) in a bucket of warm water and stood his foot in the bucket and gone for it with a bathing brush. I did do a patch test 1st to make sure it didn't bother his skin and I have been up this morning and checked the skin again.

I left the foot to stand for a bit and then added Galop Purple Shampoo on them and left for a few mins then washed through. Then added conditioner (the cheep coconut stuff) They were gray from the rubber in the arena but seems to have comen up well other than teh yellow tinge at eth ends of teh shaft.

I have sprayed just pig oil on them as they dry as I have heard mix reviews about the Super and pig so I just stick to the pig. I have also been advised that Cowboy Magin yellow removal shampoo is a godsend so I am awaiting delivery of this. I have also put a touch of leg guard on the wet legs and allowed to dry in. Looking this morning at him (he lives out 24 hrs) he seemed to still be white, there are a few brown bits nothing that I think Ehh why did I bother, in his defense, it did rain all night last night.

How soon before you have a show planned do you guys bath and how may bath do you go thought. I am due to have him clipped about 2 weeks before the show and some on the yard as saying that is to close to the show. I can't get her out any sooner thought. I also can not bring myself to clip them off. it takes me all my time to rim them down.

Ps this is my 1st hairy and my 1st show prep experience (i have only ever had a TB who was dead simple)

Thanks guys! x

You need the white chalk or the paste after washing, you cover the whole white sock and feathers in it then let it dry and brush the feathers, bandaging afterwards helps to keep them clean, when I worked with show cobs we slapped on the paste after washing the night before then bandaged, then straight on the lorry in the morning and then they were taken off at the show.

Sheep face white! Put it on when the legs are wet and leave it on til just before you go in the ring. It is a powder - chalk with a bit of dye to make it extra white!
