Well tacked up the pony tonight to have a wee schooling sesh and she seemed to be walking a bit short once I had got on.

Jumped off and checked and she has a fly bite in front of the girth which the girth was rubbing and so she was obviously in a bit of pain with it.

The bite is now a bit sore looking and a bit raw so have slathered in Sudocreme.

Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions to allow me to still ride her? It is not under the girth but the very edge of the girth is touching it.

I have a competition in 2 weeks time so need to get the practice in and keep her fitness levels up.

What do you think??

Go bareback?
Or find a really nice soft girth sleeve so it doesn't rub her

Free schooling for the fitness bit? Or otherwise a soft girth as suggested above. Sudocream should soften it up though - works wonders with everything.

Was worried that bareback might be suggested!!!!

Don't know if my confidence levels are good enough or my seat good enough to try that at the mo. Would probably end up dumped on the ground! LOL!!

Bareback will keep her fitness up and do wonders for you! Everyone wonders why continental riders (esp spanish) look so stable, they spend teh first 6 months bareback on the lunge! Trust me, wobblyness goes quickly!

Buy a Mattes wool girth cover. Pretty expensive but very soft and thick - worked with my horse a treat.

Yep bareback, when my horse could be ridden we did nothing but bareback over the summer. My riding style is terrible, but I can stick on like a limpet!

Bareback isn't so bad - start off at walk (led if you feel really nervous), then progress to trot and canter over time. Most people find they are fine, despite initial nerves. You'll never know if you don't give it a try after all!
