Fed up. My horse has been not quite right behind for a few months and was rushing off in his transitions.
got the vet out who xrayed and diagnosed bone spavin in both hocks.
So last week ponio had Tildren and steroid injections in both hocks.
He's now on box rest aside from his controlled return to exercise, which is alternating daily lunging and ridden hacks.
He's calm as anything on the yard but not to ride or lunge. I can tell he's trying his best to keep it contained but he just explodes.
After today's shenanigans i paid a visit to the vet and picked up some zylkene and dormesedan.
I am just fed up and stressed out. Just want my calm, sound, chilled pony back.

You poor thing. Is there a reason he is not allowed turnout? It just seems strange as I've dealt with a lot of horses with hock spavin and that have had tildren and steroid injections, and none of them have had to have box rest apart from the first two days, so I'm just a bit puzzled. Hock spavin is arthritis of the hocks and this is always better if the horse is turned out.

Our fields are deep mud at the moment and the vet thought box rest is better. He said he would have had him turned out if we had non mud grazing. He's being reassessed this week so hoping he'll say he can go out. I agree i thought out would be better as he must be stiffening up in the stable..... But I have a great vet so I have no doubt he knows what he's doing. I do wish he could go out though for all those reasons and both our sanity.

I feel for you OP, I'm in the same boat as my girl has been out if proper work for months..... Just had steroid injections in hocks and after 5 days box rest she has been turned out and I can now get on her.... Ahem, only problem is after the last few months I can't get on her... I cannot even long line my usually placid angelic horse.... My trainer is doing everything as she's so tightly wound. So depressing.
Like I said, I feel for you. Hope you get out and about soon.
Nan
