I have a set of 10 questions i'm asking sellers, and some of them are soooo shirty on the phone answering then its driving me round the bend- why is it so hard to be honest? Perhaps it the questions I'm asking? Can you have a look and tell me if im being unreasonable?
1. Is the pony registered with a breed society?
2. Has the pony ever had vet out for anything other than routine work?
3. Is the pony fully vaccinated/wormed and trimmed to date? (this is the one they love to skirt round!)
4. Does the pony display any stable vices? (again love skirting round this one)
5. Is the pony easy to catch both when alone and in company?
6. How does the pony act with others in a field?
7. Has the pony ever seen trafic and how did it react? (again one that no one wants to answer properly)
8. does the pony show any signs of sweet itch/headshake?
9. Does the pony have any blemishes?
10. Is the pony calm and relaxed when seperated from the group to be groomed etc?

Nothing too pushy there surely?
grrr- one guy kept repeating that the horse was 9/10th thoroughbred to me, great, i get the picture, i want to know about other things!
One Girl wouldnt answer my questions saying it was her sisters then proceeded to txt me loads of random pictures of the ponies parents. Is it because I have a small budget that i seem to be buying from numpties?

Those questions wouldn't bother me but then if I wanted to sell something I'd be perfectly honest and try and offer the info anyway!!

Hi, I think they are perfectly reasonable questions. I sell a few horses and I spend hours on the phone telling people every little thing I can think of before they even come down to see the horse. If I think the horse might not be suitable I don't bother to waste either my time or theirs in letting them come and I think its only fair on the horse to find a suitable home for them. Personally i think if they avoid answering the question then I would think there's obviously an issue with it.
Keep asking the questions!! I think if the seller is genuine they will tell you good and bad about the horse.

You are asking the right questions as a buyer.
I wish people who come to us for one on loan would ask these.
Most come acting like its a sweet shop and say "I'll have that one". We run a horse sanctuary for psycologicly affected horses and many questions need asking both ways.
If the sellers are not willing to give the answers i would just walk away, they are probably trying to hide something.
There are honest sellers out there who want the best home for their horse.
Keep asking!

I tell you what - I've left three messages on a seller's phone so far, because they said they were too busy to asnwer emails, and I'm still waiting!

Thanks guys- at least its not me asking them wierd questions- i dont see why its so difficult- either a horse has been vaccinated or it hasn't surely?

im selling and those are good questions - as a buyer its good to know you are serious so shouldnt be a problem. good luck!

They seem like pretty standard questions to me

the worst question I got recently froma buyer on the phone was "how does it breathe?" my answer? "in and out like a horse". Stupid idiot woman, I had already told her it would pass a vetting no problem. She promptly hung up on me. Shame.
