Entered Winkburn this Saturday, prep been going fab, G is very fit and feeling very well! However, went down after work today to find hind leg slightly swollen around his splint, and splint which is about 2/3mnths old slightly sensitive to touch. Must have knocked it yesterday. Trotted him up, very definitely sound, so took him road walking for 30mins, came back, swelling had gone, so cold hosed him and put him to bed. Didnt seem sensitive when put him to bed. Now intending to cold hose in morning and evening tomo, and he has a magno boot on overnight. Now if ground is hard, won't run XC anyway on sat, but would you ride if splint had been sensitive at all? Has had one infront before where he kicked himself, never made him lame and went on own with gentle work, but in different situation with having several events lined up in next few weeks!!

Ideas/suggestions welcomed?!?!

Sorry to hear that Kate but as you know THATS HORSES. Personally I would not even go on Saturday as eventing is not what I would call gentle work. All three phases on grass and the xc runs over stubble which will be rock hard. Not worth agravating it, possibly making it worse and G lame. He has his whole life ahead of him. Would continue looking after it the way you are but without doing Winkburn.

Thanks MrsT, blooming creature. Its not even a newly formed splint, has been there for mnths, just think the daft beggar has caught himself on it

Is sulking in his box tonight.

i'd be a lot more worried about it if it was a front leg.
umm, lots of cold hosing and ice tomorrow, and if he's not any more sensitive on it than he was before, to a firm press on the splint, and he's sound, i'd run... as long as the ground's pretty good.

Thanks, going to be a complete hypochondriac and get the vet out me thinks if nothing has changed in the morning. Its not just this weekend ive got events all through September!! Least can get it checked out and make sure its not interfering with anything, and get a pro opinion. Won't run on anything other than good ground, he is only 5! But nice early morning tomo to get it hosed before work.....
