Like the title says I'm fed up of having to take 5 barrows of poo every time I muck out my horse. In his defence, he is a stressy thoroughbred but it just takes so long! Do you think another bedding type would help?
I think so I muck him out at weekends and it's consistently 4/5 barrows. He's on part livery and whoever has to muck him out in the week complainsIs that every day?
He's out about 9-3 every day atm apart from in the snow when he's out for about 2/3 but surprisingly it doesn't matter how long he's out in the day he had to be quarantined when he first came and it's the same amount!Amazing! How many hours in a 24 hour period is he in his stable?
I mean wet straw as well but it's quite a lot I would say like 3 barrows of just poo!5 barrows of just poo? Or 5 barrows including wet straw? 5 barrows of just poo would be an awful lot. Even 5 barrows including wet straw is quite a lot!
I ditched straw recently.
As cheap as it is at £15 for a round bale it blooming STINKS and my muck heap was tripling in size. Back on the woodpellets now and although marginally more expensive, I save so much time and the smell is glorious!!
Woodpellets gets the vote from me ?
I did use to think that but I do it every day when I'm off and it's still the same amountI would suspect the mucking out may not be terribly thorough on the days the staff do it perhaps.
Could I ask what is that?Could you deep litter?
Leaving the wet straw in to create a stable base of the bed. Take poo off the top and top up with fresh straw xCould I ask what is that?
Thank you I'll ask my yard if they think that's a good idea xLeaving the wet straw in to create a stable base of the bed. Take poo off the top and top up with fresh straw x
He does two haynets and 2 feeds a day of 1 scoop of hifi and 1/2 a scoop of nuts. He's a really bad doer and looses weight like there's no tomorrow if his feeds cut down this winters been a real eye opener for me as it's my first with him and it's such a balancing act to keep his weight ok.Crikey thats a lot of barrows of poo for just 1 horse Per day!
i moan about my 2 producing 1 very full barrows worth per 24hrs....id give up horses if mine produced what yours does...he must eat a mountain of food?!
I'm jealous! It is a lot of poop. Even on adlib hay my ID would struggle to produce 3 barrows. She can manage 1 and a half in 24 hours. But if its really mixed in with straw it could end up being more.
If that is only 2 haynets in 24 hours I would up the hayHe does two haynets and 2 feeds a day of 1 scoop of hifi and 1/2 a scoop of nuts. He's out for most of the day and he's on the most food of any horse at the yard alreadyIf that is only 2 haynets in 24 hours I would up the hay
How much are pellets roughly?THat's a LOT of poo! I've got a 17h mare who produces poo of elephantine proportions in vast quantities, and rivers of wee every night, and I get grumpy if I have to go back with a second barrow! She's on pellets - no way would I have her on anything else
I pay £5.95 a bag from local store - or its a fair bit cheaper if you buy them in bulk I use Snowflake or Platinum PlusHe's out for most of the day and he's on the most food of any horse at the yard already
