Like the title says I'm fed up of having to take 5 barrows of poo every time I muck out my horse. In his defence, he is a stressy thoroughbred but it just takes so long! Do you think another bedding type would help?

5 barrows of just poo? Or 5 barrows including wet straw? 5 barrows of just poo would be an awful lot. Even 5 barrows including wet straw is quite a lot!

Amazing! How many hours in a 24 hour period is he in his stable?
He's out about 9-3 every day atm apart from in the snow when he's out for about 2/3 but surprisingly it doesn't matter how long he's out in the day he had to be quarantined when he first came and it's the same amount!

I ditched straw recently.
As cheap as it is at £15 for a round bale it blooming STINKS and my muck heap was tripling in size. Back on the woodpellets now and although marginally more expensive, I save so much time and the smell is glorious!!

Woodpellets gets the vote from me ?

£15 for a round bale? Where are you based please?

I get mine for a tenner. It does make hoiking wet straw around kind of worth it. I hate the stuff though! Horses however seem to love it. And husband loves it due to the low price and he's not the one mucking out. So I'm outvoted.

Crikey thats a lot of barrows of poo for just 1 horse Per day!

i moan about my 2 producing 1 very full barrows worth per 24hrs....id give up horses if mine produced what yours does...he must eat a mountain of food?!
He does two haynets and 2 feeds a day of 1 scoop of hifi and 1/2 a scoop of nuts. He's a really bad doer and looses weight like there's no tomorrow if his feeds cut down this winters been a real eye opener for me as it's my first with him and it's such a balancing act to keep his weight ok.

I have one on shavings and a pregnant mare on straw, my preference is shavings but making things too expensive for both to be on shavings as mare very messy, but no too bad to muck out I get three barrows of wet straw/poo per day when in overnight, although mine do stay out a lot when weather agreeable so ive only used one bale straw so far, but have just started my 4th bale of shavings so that’s the comparison.

Wow that’s a lot. I’ve always had my horses on straw (except when Kia took an allergic reaction ?) and I was averaging 1/2 to a full wheelbarrow per day. Eowyn was particularly wet and even then with a deep bed she was a barrow a day.

I’d be questioning what’s being done during the week as my bed never smells like how you are describing even with the minger that was E ?

This is what my stable looks like when it’s add straw day. I only put a big builders bag in every 5/6 days and it stays fairly large. Faran is fairly clean, he pees at the front corner nearest the door so I leave that and add the wasted hay to keep it stable and remove that small 3ftx3ft section once a week.

THat's a LOT of poo! I've got a 17h mare who produces poo of elephantine proportions in vast quantities, and rivers of wee every night, and I get grumpy if I have to go back with a second barrow! She's on pellets - no way would I have her on anything else

If that is only 2 haynets in 24 hours I would up the hay

He's out for most of the day and he's on the most food of any horse at the yard already

How much are pellets roughly?

He's in quite a big stable but it's still a lot especially as he eats some of the straw
