those of you that have seen my previous posts will know that i have struggled to get things together with my youngster. Well riding wise things seem to be coming together - can now get on him without being bucked off

However, am now at the stage where i want to do more and go out on hacks. Trouble is can't seem to find anyone to hack out with, and people never offer to help out when they see me struggling.
Basically just wandering if this is typical of DIY yards (have always been on big livery yards) or whether a move would help. Anyone been in the same situation. what did you do?
(by the way, the other liveries aren't horrible or anything just keep themselves to themselves)
 
Same here Karen. Lots of nice people in yard but hard to get a nanny. Everyone is much more high flying than me. I have just got to the stage of needing to ride out after an injury and would like a "police horse" to go with. Will you vet any riders and how will you arrange insurance?. Good Luck!!
 
How I wish you lived near me! I have got used to riding alone now but there are times when I really need a "buddy". Bite the bullet and ask the other liveries, you never know, perhaps they are just shy! xx
 
I know i should just bite the bullet and get in there and ask them but i have in the past and just feel as though i'm hassling them. i woud usually ask one of the other girls who i have ridden with before but her pony is broken. i feel a bit stuck as i need a nanny and most of the other horses aren't unsuitable. the other safe options are ridden by teenagers and always what to go for fast hacks, which i don't realy feel up to. or they're out at comps on weekends. i'm sure things will be fine just feel a bit down as it was such a nice day today and i was stuck going in the school again. hopefully when the evenings get lighter it will be a bit easier. can't wait until i can trust him enough to go out by myself.
 
I've got exactly the same problem. A young, unpredictable horse that's coming on well in the school but who has very dodgy brakes when she gets nervous. I've hacked her out a couple of times but if she gets air space in front of her she starts to grab the bit and I've had to head her into hedges. I need a proper good solid cob's backside in front of us. The problem is all the solid safe cobs on the yard are owned by novices who I wouldn't want to endanger/frighten should my horse do anything ridiculous. Very frustrating. There's a job opportunity for someone with a bombproof horse - travelling around being a nanny, I know I'd be prepared to hire one once a week - Any takers!

Had the same problem when mine was a youngster, was on a DIY yard like you. Moved yards, where a fellow livery was a BHSII and she was fab, told me who would be good to go out with etc. Now on more of a competition yard as my horse loves a routine (old yard taken over, new owner changed things quite dramatically) and he is better again.
 
This is not going to help, BUT the ideal solution is to make sure that you have a sister who rides! My older sister bullied me into riding lessons when I was 7 and now (a lot of years on!) We both have someone to ride out with. I must admit I missed riding out with her this year while she has been out with a broken leg.
 
Your right, not much help but did make me smile. See now the other option would be to get the OH into riding but don't think thats going to happen
