Was looking forward to Riding with a friend tommorow, weather supposed to be good, goes to feed him this morning, bloody front shoe missing, he was only shod about 4 weeks ago, only had them re-nailed last week as they were starting to sound a bit tinky, never had trouble with his feet like this before in the 5 years Iv'e had him, been treating them with the greasy nice smelling coronary band stuff and moisterizer every day, he has good diet, asked the farrier if I should be giving him anything else, he just says it's the weather, will have to ride in the menege till next saturday, it's not the same as being out and about tormenting dog walkers and cyclists (joke), got a charity ride at Okeover a week tommorow so want him right for that, glad I rode last night now.

My horses normally keep their shoes on well but I've had farrier out to re-nail shoes due to them coming loose. It's down to the weather.

Why ride in menage till next Saturday, can't the farrier come & sort it sooner than in a week?

Well he is booked to come next saturday to do all four, when he came last week he said he didn't want to do them all for another couple of weeks, I have phoned him and waiting for a reply, but I left him a message saying it wil probably best to wait until next week, it isn't down to money, Po gets whatever he needs especially when it comes to health and feet.

it's a bugger. i couldn't believe the last time i shod my TB, one shoe came off the very next day! farrier did come straight out tho as i had my 1st ever jumping lesson the next day.
time before that they only lasted 3 weeks, it's just that time of year i guess.

Bummer!

I am lucky as *touches wood* both of mine have good feet. The only other thing that maybe worth looking at long term is adding extra biotin to his feed - will be a long term benefit to his hooves.

For now all you can do is keep up with the hoof conditioners etc This summer I have been using the Cornucrescine tea tree hoof oil and it seems to have helped keep their hooves more moist than the other stuff I have used. Have to say it was more luck than judgement as it was being sold off for 3 quid instead of £11 - but will definately use it again. Maybe worth a look?

Hope you manage to get shoes sorted for next Sunday. I'm going to Okeover too - my first outing with both new(ish) lorry and pony.
