I've been looking for a horse to loan/share for months and months and I know it takes time and is hard but it is just so disappointing. I have seen a few seemingly perfect adverts, emailed the person, they've asked me to email them all about myself which has taken so much time and effort and then I've never heard anything back :( Is it me or is this rude? I would've thought that if someone didn't like the sound of me then they would've had the courtesy to tell me!! Or isn't that the etiquette?

What else can I do? Do you think it's worth placing a wanted ad? I just never think that people read them!!

I've had the same problems, owners messing me around, lying to me, leading me along etc. It's just a case of picking yourself up and carrying on looking. I always see it as, although this horse is perfect, do I want to get messed around down the line by the owner?

Good luck!

I would place a wanted ad - after all its worth a try :). Good luck in your search, I would say post what your looking for here but think you might get a slapped wrist!

It wouldn't do any harm to put your ad in the wanted section , people can see at a glance what your looking for and if you fit the bill to share/loan their horse., it may save a few timewasters in the long run - also put ads in your local tack shop so that hopefully shareers or loaners will be in your area , good luck..

Chin up chickie - we will find you something I promise! There WILL be horses around. Have you put an ad in the freeads? Because I know a few people who have found good horses through wanted ads there. Or just buy one ;)

Good luck!!

Hopefully you will find something though word of mouth. I used ride other people's horses while i didn't have my own.... and usually found there was a reason why these people didn't want to ride them themselves!!! Once I got my head round that it was ok, my riding skills definitely improved somewhat exercising very young and very naughty horses!
In the end I got lucky and a very nice racing trainer gifted me a wonderful, well behaved ex racehorse who is a pleasure to ride.
Just a quick note on the ads, beware! A lady on our yard keeps getting poor unsuspecting people in your situation to share or ride her black mare. It is vicious!! It has a habit of chasing people and trying to kick them in the head, and of being difficult to ride. She swears blind it is a lovely well behaved horse! Our yard is full of confident experienced riders who all help each other out but nobody will touch her horse after seeing what it is capable of. The most we can do is try and politely advise the people she trys to get to help to at least wear a helmet while near the horse. If you go to look at something on a yard with other people it may be worth while trying to get vibes from other liveries about what the horse is like...........

Good luck, there are plenty of lovely horses out there needing some extra love! x

Thanks everyone!!

hollyvictoriab - Thanks for the warning - alarm bells will ring if I come across a vicious black mare near exeter - yikes!!

spiralx - Will definitely try a wanted ad, but since I'm not available for a month or two I may wait until then....

zxp - stop stalking me!! Ha ha ha ha!! I know you want me to buy one but that would have to wait a few years and I want a horsie and I want one now!!! (PS you will have to fill me in on who else I know on here)

Thanks all for advice, hopefully something will come up before I get too much more fed up......
