Having read all 10 pages of Englund's 'interesting' thread got me thinking - All 3 of mine are shod and unlikely to go barefoot in the foreseeable future, but I would like them to grow more foot.... 2 are ex racehorses and the other is an American paint x. Hoof quality is OK, but could be better but 1 tb and the paint x have very slow growing feet. I try to have a totally fibre based diet, however the tb with slow growing feet is the fussiest eater and poorest doer I have ever come across - he won't eat anything with alfalfa in, even if he had nothing else to eat for days, he still wouldn't touch it, he also can't be bothered with chaff...I have had to resort to a coarse mix to get his suppliments in - he currently has seaweed, brewers yeast, linseed meal, cider vinegar and 'happy hoof' from feedmark. He does like grass and I give him as much turnout as possible and ad lib hay when in - but he never eats huge quantities. The other 2 will eat whatever you put in front of them!

So...... any sugeestions on how to improve hoof growth and quality?

Swop the seaweed for farriers formula which is the foot supplement I have seen the biggest differences with .
Lots of people swear by pro foot but I had a devil of a job getting them to eat it and I have also used formula 4 feet on which I saw no difference at all .
At the minute I am using farriers Favorite which is giving good results with my TB.
Farriers formula is I think on a Alfafa base that might be a issue for you.
Seaweed is not really a balanced supplement it's quality is variable I would feed a general purpose supplement in stead.
Speedibeet is my Favorite way of getting stuff down speedibeet and crushed oats always works with mine.
