Hi, I am struggling to know what to feed my loan mare at the moment. She is 15.2hh 8yrs believed to be Trakhener (sp). She is quite a good doer but is very energetic and nervous and has too much energy most of the time. She is currently out during day, in at night with ad lib haylage and fed baileys lo calorie feed balancer with a scoop of top chop lite. She is in good condition but has dropped a bit of weight in past few weeks. She used to be on spillers original balancer with the top chop lite. Do you think if I put her back on this it will be enough for the level of work she is doing or should I look for something else? She is in fairly hard work at the moment, a mix of long fast hacks, jumping and farm rides. I just don't want to give her anything heating that will undo all the good work I have been doing calming her down.

I find the Allen and Page feeds really good. I would give her something like Calm and Condition, we used to use it on our ex race horse to help him put weight on and keep him calm! and mixed in a bit of alpha a or high fi!

if you go on their website you can provide all the info about your horse and they will give you advice on the best feed, also they recently sent me a sample of the feed and a money off voucher for the feed that they recommended! so its worth doing that at the very least!

Also they do cool and condition, which is less calories, if the calm and condition puts too much weight on them!

If she is fizzy, I'd change from haylage to hay. I also use Calm and Condition, and also use alfa beet which is good for weight gain, and non heating.

I loan a 17'3 sports horse who does not need ANY extra spark as he can be alot to handle! But we have struggled previously to keep his weight on. At the moment he is on Alfa oil, Top spec cool condition cubes, Top spec balancer and kwik beet With winter glow supplement and ad-lib hay. This seems to keep his energy levels at what we want them without giving him too much extra to make him silly. And he has kept his weight on all winter. :)

Thanks for replies, can't put her on hay as I have no where to store it. She isn't hyper just has plenty of energy and doesn't really need any more. I can't use alpha a or oil as it makes my other 2 horses grumpy and hyper. Think I will just try putting her back on the original balancer and see if that does the trick. Just worried i am not giving her enough for the amount of work she is doing.
