Hi what would people advise to feed a 3yr old tb in light work soon to be turned away for the winter months?

He is arriving next week and want to get his feed right. Currently his owner feeds him a tiny amount of Alfa a and think is Allen and page tho not sure which one.

My cob is just on fast fibre and chaff to put his supplements in. Would this be ok for new one for now?

If your youngster is being turned away for the winter I should think keeping things simple for yourself and also feeding him Fast Fibre/chaff with a general all purpose vit/min supplement (plus ad lib hay) should be just fine. If he needs more, you'll soon be able to check his condition score but chances are, he'll be just fine so long as he gets plenty of forage.

Any piccies of the new boy??! :)

Thanks for that spyda it had been a great help. He is my first youngster so don't want to make any mistakes.
Will post pictures when he arrives next week :)

i too am getting my first youngster (3yo) next week and have decided on alfa-a molasses free and calm and condition. he is slightly under weight and very under muscled so hopefully i have got it right. wanted to keep the sugar content fairly low but something that will put weight on him.

Hey, no worries! It's a very exciting time getting a new baby, but also one filled with lots of what ifs and worry. I always think its easiest to keep things simple :)

PS: And dont forget to post the pictures of him when he arrives.
