hey guys I have my 18 year old tbx highland on calm and condition and halleys just grass, shes been on it for about 8 months. I put her on calm and condition to help her keep condition through the winter, but it hasn't. I feel it isn't doing her any good and I put her on the just grass to supplement with their not been much grazing. both of them are just useless and have no effect on her. I was thinking of putting her on Pegasus blue chaff. and does anyone have any suggestions on something to help bring her to peak condition? for the showing season, I cant put her on anything high in suger as she will go skatt crazy! lol. are the vetran mixes any good and which ones would yous suggestions?.

sorry for all the questions lol :)

You can't go far wrong with some unmolassed beet and some linseed; doesn't have to cost much, I feed all three of mine this and costs no more than £20 a month ( 24,22 and 17 year olds )

Avoid sugary mixes. Go for high fibre low sugar .i found spillers conditioning fibre mixed with either speedy beat or fibre beat. A small scoop of conditioning cubes a mug if micronised linseed this will help with coat shine and is very good for weight gain. You could also look at some brewers yeast. You can get in eBay the above I used for tb x. Pe hitch dropped weigh easy. They looked fab and kept a level head in it. Avoid Alfa oil sent mine crazy. I gave a large pan of the conditioning fibre morning and night during cold winter. Try farmand marketplace.co.uk for cheapest linseed delivered.

thanks guys, I give her heyledge three big heynets at night and two big in the morning with her breakfast, I have went and got linseed oil and have bought Pegasus blue chaff, I will slowly give her this with the calm and condition and hopefully fingers crossed it works as I want to get her ready for show ring.

Wondering why you have bought the Pegasus chaff, it's just sugar coated straw! You'd be better off with a molasses free one

As AngieandBen has mentioned, Pegasus chaff is just lightly sugar coated straw, that product won't encourage weight gain/condition. Have you tried micronised full fat linseed? That would be a better option for adding condition.

that A&B says! ^^

I feed speedibeet, linseed and alfa oil to my two who are hunting, and it's perfect for them. I'd suggest that you avoid the alfalfa though if she's not working at the moment and she's a bit sensitive to things.

thank you I was advised by someone at the yard that the Pegasus chaff will help with condition but after doing more research into it I now relies it ist best for her, I now have her on speedy beet linseed oil and spillars conditioning mix

The conditioning mix is 20% starch as well as having plenty of molasses in it, yet you said you wanted to avoid things to send her crazy!!

To put condition on you need to build up the exercise so she gains muscle in the correct places and keep her on a low energy diet if she is inclined to hot up, the speedy beet is fine as is the linseed, I would be very careful the mix doesn't do more harm than good, introduce it very slowly as it could be like rocket fuel.
