Feed Balancers- Choices!!

Apologies if i have asked this before,


Your recommendations for a good feed balance that doesnt cost £40 a bag!!!?? horse is on poor grazing and i feel he isnt getting a good balanced diet with recommended amount of vits and minerals.


He is currently on hi-fi lite chaff ( heaped scoop morning & night) micronised linseed and 1/4 scoop (dry weight) of fast fibre in dinner.
 
I'm currently having excellent results with D&H suregrow on my gang (age range 24 to 8) it's £14 a bag.
I know it's aimed at youngstock/breeding but if you look at the nutritional analysis it contains the same things at the same level as other ordinary balancers with a couple of extras (like Lysine which is good for muscles)
The only thing it doesn't have is a pre/pro biotic but that is in your Fast Fibre anyway.
 
I personally dont like balancers - what are you balancing too?? If you dont take it seriously and have everything tested I just dont see the point.

I feed a diet of fibre with as little sugar as possible and feed brewers yeast & linseed meal. Then ad lib haylage - seeing fantastic results.

Really they're just concentrated feeds. I'd much rather feed a couple of mugs of 'balancer' than several kg of mix or nuts. Don't think the name 'balancer' helps.

OP - I've used TopSpec Lite and D&H Suregrow in the past, would recommend both.
 
I feed Pro Balancer from Pro Earth. i chose this after having my grass analysed and it was the closest to what they need.

I used to use Top Spec Lite but have switched to Pro Balance from Progressive Earth too. Top Spec needs to be fed in relatively high quantities (500g for 500 kg horse) So you still go through a bag quick enough if you feed the correct quantities. At £26.50 for a bag, that will last a 500kg horse 40 days, so 66p per day. While Pro balance works out at 32p per day if you buy the larger quantities
 
I like TopSpec Lite but have just economised futher to Hickstead Leisure Balancer. Seems good so far.. I like Hickstead horse feeds so I decided it's worth a try for £13!
 
My two have been looking better since they started having ForagePlus balancer. I'm so impressed with it that I'm currently emailing them to get the recipe for making it up for the new boy, too (he can't have linseed so I need to mix it up myself, without). I wouldn't be bothering if it didn't suit my current horses so well.
I would try that, or Progressive Earth Pro Balance.
