Feed Balancers

I'm sorry for asking this as I'm sure its been done 100's of times before!

Basically, I've been trying to put condition on my TB and in addition to his normal food I've been feeding him Blue Chip, which is supposed to work wonders and miracles, but on my lad, hasn't touched him, he's been on it for 10 weeks and I cannot see any difference in him at all.

So I've had it with that and am looking at the others, Top Spec, Equilibra, Ultimate Build up etc and all the testimonials on their websites claim that this is the best and will do the trick, as they would! So I thought I'd ask you guys if you have used any of the feed balancers mentioned and if there is a favourite amongst you!

He's had everything checked, teeth, regularly wormed, and although I know he's not a build thats ever going to be a fatty, I would like a bit more condition on him!

I love TopSpec - my boy always looks fab on it, and I have recommended it to others on my yard with great results - you could call the helpline - they are really helpful.

Top Spec all the way. Tried the rest and that def is the best.

Top Spec for merlin too.... he looked a bit poor this time last year, as if his head was too big for his body :-( Then I won a sack of leisure time and kept him on it for the last year.... he looks brill this year and loads of people on the yard have said how well he looks It certainly isnt from the grazing, as its c**p so must be something.

top spec feed balancer is fab IMO. Also you could try him on their super conditioning flakes or their cool and condition cubes. Had Pidge on the flakes for over a year as he was very underweight when I got him and he is now on the cubes and looks fab on them

apart from a balancer have you tried allen & page calm and condition. Great at adding weight and condition but no heating them up

Bracken1 I had him on C&C when he first arrived as I usually swear by A&P foods but for some reason it didn't do that much for him, so I swapped him to Bailey's No4 which has worked well. I have to be a bit careful with what he gets as he is barley and molasses intolerant so comes out in horrible lumps if he has too much of either. Horses eh?!

The old mare I look after is on Equilibra, and she's looking really well for this time of year. Not entirely sure whether its the Equilibra, or just coincidence though!

Out of interest can I ask why you wouldn't touch BC JosieS? I can't say I've been very impressed with it, half of the bag was dust and my lad didn't seem keen to eat the other half!

Im nearly at the end of my first bag of Topspec, and altho its prob not the easiest time of year to tell, i think its doing its job. Its great that i dont have to feed a hugh bucketful of cubes to know W gets the right amount of things. I chose Topspec over Bluechip and Baileys tho as it was recommended by people i know.

I put my horse on Top Spec Balancer and it sent him completely loopy. Poor lad, he became scared of his own shadow, spooky, nappy and 'on the edge'. I took him off it, and within a week he was sane again. I rang Top Spec who assured me that he was the only horse this had ever happened to (!) and sent me a free tub of their Comprehensive supplement. I still have him on that now, as it is very good. So I feed basic nuts, Hi Fi Lite and the Comprehensive plus a new addition of sunflower seeds. He is 21 and looks great.

Ive just put our 2 ex-racers onto Baileys Outshine and the Pink One has started putting weight on already... its soya and linseed oil based so keeps them super shiney and has deffo made a difference to Pinkys weight in short time...

Topspec is fab, I have fed thier general balancer and conditionign flakes with greta reulsts..something I never saw with BC. I'm just about to put my youngster on TopSpec bloodstock balancer too!

I've got big lad on Topspec, and it has helped him- although I think he will always be a skinny minnie! I would recomend it.
I feeding it with alfa a oil, sugar beet and extra oil at the moment, and he's really well on it.
When I first got him I fed him balanced horse feeds show mix, which put loads of weight on him, and is certainly worth a try if you can get hold of it (I fed it with extra oil and then with topspec as well over winter).

Horses for courses, really. Top Spec suited all of our 6 but one, and it made him quite gassy, bloated and very runny and he ended up losing weight and lacking energy (and sods law he was the entire reason I'd tried it in the first place). I've since stuck them all on the Bailey's equivalent and they've been fine.

Marius Mum, you lad certainly isn't the only one to have a bad reaction. I know some others have gone hyper on it. It doesn't mean its a bad feed, it just means that it doesn't suit some horses.
