Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for some help with market research. (I'm not going to say which company so no one can accuse me of advertising!)

I'm looking to find out people's thoughts on having a 10 bag price for feed shown very obviously on each bag, you would not have to go and haggle or feel cheeky asking for discount only to be knocked back - so buy any 10 bags of horse feed (mix and match across the whole range) and they will be a lower price, buy any 10 bales of bedding (probably not mixed only one type) and these would drop to the lower price.

Any thoughts would be great!
Lucy
(We may also do this on the working dog food for all the farmers and gamekeepers out there)

I think its a brilliant idea :) i have 5 horses all fed twice daily (small feeds) but would definitely buy 10 bags to get a deal. I buy about 8 bags of feed at once currently so I dont have to go back so often BUT I keep the horses at home and have ample storage. It might not be so feasible for a single horse owner at livery due to storage and usage rate. :).

The feed store I often go to has just started a loyalty scheme which is fab. If you spend £20 you get 1 stamp, and for every £10 on top you get another. They put them on a loyalty card and once full you get money off that purchase though Im blanking on how much off it is atm ! I think thats a good idea though and again benefits people like me who buy in relative bulk (about 8 bags of feed a time + rapeseed straw bedding) as I benefit from the stamp from every £10 over the initial £20 more than someone who bought in lesser quantities generally or less quantities more regularly because they cant store it.
The more I buy in one go the less trips I need so less fuel so win win :).

I buy mine in half ton sacks so I aready get a bargain.
I was able to negotiate a deal when I bought 40 small sacks but the supplier changed so now I buy buy the half ton.
The manufacturers are really good and load the sack into my Ifor Williams on a pallet.

It sounds like a great idea to me. Having 4 horses then people like me who may own different types and ages may need different products when it comes to feed. However I generally only buy around 3 bags of feed at a time. Last time I got an extra bag of bloom to help see me to the end of January though. As for bedding yes that too would be helpful.
For people who are on friendly yards then one or two people could go and get the feed at the reduced rate and charge the others accordingly a bit extra for fuel, or else take it in turns to go fetch the feed/bedding.
I think anything that helps us poor and I mean that literally, horse owners is a huge bonus :)
