Hi.

My livery has now decided that feed will not be included in the monthly bill, so now we have to provide our own feed etc (I prefer this. It was either that or a rent increase!!)
So, I would love a shiney, glavanised metal bin, but are proving to be costly, so did think about the good old house hold bins, but a bag of Alfa A will no fit. I can have an old freezer, as we are only allowed "bin" sized storage. How easy are House hold wheelie bins to get? I only need two and I could get a lock on these too (with a bit of help from OH!)
Any one else got any good ideas??

Cheers

Yes, I could do. We are only allowed 3 bins per horse, so I could have 2 for Alfa A, and one for the Condition Cubes.
I have found a local company that sell "second" wheelie bins (new bins, but have wrong things stamped on them like names etc) for £20 + VAT each, which I though was a good price, and they will deliver, so have sent them an email.

We have plastic bins with lids on, I think there were previously for storing sand or something? We salvaged them from my dad's work (engineering)

Could always ask around builders yards or something like that - might have some going for nothing? We have had them twenty years, and nothing has ever nibbled through

I went to the garden centre and picked up a rain water butt and it takes the Hifi easily. No tap hole covered with carpet tape no hole in lip sorted. Made it even better to get to the till and told they were on offer £10 off!

I've got ordinary plastic bins too and they will take a complete bag of Horsehage Veteran chaff as long as you press it down very hard! I found coloured ones so my feed instructions are easier if Sunny has to be on full service ever, eg if he bloody bucks me off on the lane and puts me in hospital for 2 days lol! Instructions just say 1 scoop from pink bin, one from green etc. Can't go wrong. Like snw, I'd advise caution about getting wheelie bins as they are very deep and you'd struggle to get old feed from the bottom foot or so before you added new feed on top.

I have a smaller wheelie bin. The ones used for pensioners houses. A bag of alpha a fits in perfectly and I can reach the bottom.

We have used plastic bins for years, (various types, including household dustbins) and so were amazed when we realised earlier this winter that rats had gnawed through the bottom of one. We replaced plastic with galvanised metal pedal bins, same size as dustbin, from IKEA cost £10 each.
