What is the usual procedure for feed merchants delivering after a case of strangles on a yard?
One foal at our yard had strangles - no others were infected and we have now had 2 clear swabs (the foal is still in isolation because there is no other stable for it). Things seem to be returning to normal, however, my feed merchants have refused to deliver to the yard because they are worried about gossip (and have admitted as much).
This is a massive inconvenience for me, and as a regular customer I would have thought they would be a little more helpful. I didnt order untill the vet had lifted restictions on the yard, and as a result I have only a few days to find another supplier of easibed and ultimate balancer!
Is this normal? If so, I think its disgraceful. And does anyone know any large bedding and feed merchants in Lancs/Merseyside?

Over here, 60 days after the last all-clear swab comes back, is when yards are deemed clean again.

If you are past this 2 month stage then I think your feed delivery guy should be made aware of this and perhaps you could have your vet write a quick note to pass onto him?

I can totally understand where the feed merchant is coming from to be perfectly honest - his business could suffer if he were to deliver at too early a stage. I think you may have to resign yourself to collecting the yard feed yourself for a little while longer.

they phoned the vet who told them we are strangles free, restrictions lifted and the one pony that was infected being kept in isolation still because there is no other stable for it. Other feed merchants have been delivering throughout, just dropping the stuff off across the road from the farm, but mine wont even do that now we are strangles free

Unfortunatley even after the all clear people gossip about it for a while, rumours hang around long after the event.
I can understand how frustrating this must be for you, but can also see the feed merchants point of view.
I don't transport to and from yards that have had strangles until a month after the all clear, as the stigma hangs around for weeks after. If a horse i transported contracted strangles, you can guess who's door they would come knocking on.
