I am needing some advice concerning feed for this winter:

At the moment my horse is out at grass during the day and gets a concentrate mix from the stables (no choice on this one as DIY doesn't exist over here) and hay (not enough)
In around 3 weeks he will come in for good (it is impossible to find winter turn out in northern france) and I want to find him a correct diet with enough fibre.
I cannot change the concentrate feed (local brand) but I can decide on the amount he gets.
I ride him every day (dressage and 1 to 2 hacks a week)He is 16.2 hh and is in good shape weight wise and has never been a good doer.
He will be getting some hay but as there won't be enough I will buy some small bagged haylage to add during the day.
I also want to add one of the dengie feeds (either Hi-Fi or Alfa-A ) which is more adapted to him:
Should I give Hi-Fi and keep up the amount of concentrate feed (one large round scoop morning and evening) or should I give alfa A and reduce the amount of concentrate feed?

Any help or opinions would be great....

Play it by ear with the hard feed - start small and build up the concentrate if needed and Hi Fi rather than Alfa A. If you feel he needs more grub, then use Alfa A and after that if needed increase the concentrate.

But definately go with the additional haylage - and ad lib.

That's what I would do any way.

Can you get Readigrass over there? I am a huge fan as it is simply oven baked grass, with no mollasses/additives etc and seems to do my boys v well indeed.....think that there are a couple of other manufacturers of "cooked grass" but don't know names - sorry? I can feed buckets of it and they seem to love it.

Failing that - more hay - as much as you can and maybe feed in a "horse ball" to give him something to do?

Bon chance!
