Hi, just a quick question about my horses feed :)
Shes a 5yo ISH mare and currently just has a scoop of HI-FI lite and a 1/2 scoop of pony nuts for dinner and no breakfast.
She is turned out for about 7 hours a day on good grazing and has ad lib good quality hay.
I ride her about 5 times a week including a lesson and taking her out either showjumping or dressage at the weekend atm.

She just seems to lack energy all the time. Shes not AT ALL fizzy and very quiet. Shes a good weight and in good condition. She just seems to need a bit of an energy boost :p

Can anyone recommend anything i can add / substitute in her feed to help her energy levels?

(This may sound abit stupid :o but the horses I have had before have all been abit crackers with enough energy to share round the entire yard, and definatley did not need anything extra :O )

Thanks for any suggestions :)

My ISH gelding can be a bit like your horse and I spoke to my Feed Merchant. He recommended Dodson & Horrell Competition Concentrate, which is a slow release mix. I have to watch his weight so its ideal for him and gives him that bit of ooomph. Hes on Happy Hoof with this mix once a day, only has a small scoop of it. Hes in at night on good hay and has a muzzle on in the day when out.

You should email some feed companies aswell to see what they suggest :) My last Tb was a lazy sod but he didnt hold weight so i could feed him scoops upon scoops with still no difference in energy!! I tried him on different mixes and cubes and in the end found that a stud balancer gave him the energy he needed. Trial and error. Iv heard good things RE Allen and page Power and performance and Red Cell supplement. I now have a forward going ISH so shes easy to feed :D

Maybe swap the pony nuts for the recommended amount of a balancer. He won't be getting all his vits and mins at the moment so maybe that's why he's a bit flat. Balancers are low in calories so shouldn't put on any weight :).
I like Baileys lo-cal but there are tons out there :).
