TB is currently on speedy beet and calm and condition to put weight on. Thinking of leaving his shoes off (been off since September) is this diet OK for him?

Speedibeet is perfect, calm and condition NOT!

Feed micronised linseed instead of calm and condition, (one or poss 2 builders mugs per day).

Also feed pink powder as a really good balancer and probiotic.

If feet become sensitive add cal-mag.

If poos become stinky/slimey with spring grass, add charcoal "Happy Tummy"

Ad lib soaked hay too.

The above will build condition and weight and keep feet healthy (and not sensitive) and horse calm and happy.

A barefoot horse which is to be lightly worked needs a fibre based diet, with minerals and vitamins,
I would try 100gms micronised linseed meal [one mug]
One pet scoop [when dry] of Speedibeet
80gm of Equmins Advance powder.
Ad lib good hay.
I also feed a small handful of Dengie non molassed hi-fibre chaff to improve taste and texture of the feed.
Diet to be adjusted with grass and work,
Many people feed Pro Hoof if the feet are sensitive [then less Equimins is required].
There are loads of barefoot posts on here, but you need to self-educate so you know if you are working along the right lines.
There are three variables to be managed:
Diet
Exercise
Day to day management/turnout
I am not sure why CandC is so bad, I understand it is barley free, otherwise I think you will struggle to keep weight on, but this depends on the horse [you could increase the Linseed to 200 grams as suggested above].

Thanks! He's not to bad for weight in the summer he usually only gets some chaff so I'll try speedi beet and linseed.

I was thinking of getting him Pure Feeds conditioning feed, don't know if that will work out cheaper or not?

Is this it? http://www.charnwoodmilling.co.uk/mail-order/Horse_Food.html
I've never fed it before, it says high energy, will it fizz him up? Is it just a mug off powder straight into the speedibeet?

Yes, that's the stuff. My mare is very highly strung and prone to lunacy but the 300g of FF linseed meal I feed daily in winter really doesn't adversely affect her behaviour at all. The meal is ground micronised linseeds and you simply add the required amount straight out of the bag, to your existing feed and mix. I add hot water to mine and it makes a nice mash which my mare enjoys.
