I have contacted several companies
So far I ahve been told to try Balanced Horse feeds show mix - does this cause naughty behaviour? My horse is lazy but on the wrong feed is dangerous and really spooky
Baileys Endurance mix - again worry about the above
D&H - Staypower cubes
SPillers - slow release cubes

Haven't clue what to use now

Not sure about the relative affects of the feeds you've mentioned, but just a note on the Baileys.....my feed merchants are having problems getting it as apparently Baileys are having probs with it

Don't know how true that is if you've spoken to Baileys direct though?

YEah I have spoken to BAileys, may be they are reducing their stock of Baileys? I tried to get hold of their economy mix but the feed place no longer had it

How odd!

Anyways...my preference would be for the endurance mix...it's high oil, high fibre, and gives slow release energy(if I remember rightly it has reduced starch levels).
Would they not send you a few samples so you could try it without having to shell out for a whole bag that may or may not work?

HI

I feed my boy showmix and it was developed to get condiiton without silly behaviour, mine spooks for England on the wrong feed (and the grass at the moment - help!) he has been on showmix for 4 months, is looking fab and until the spring grass came through was working very well.

One of mine is super fussy, well he usually eats a new feed for a few weeks then gets bored of it and will pick bits of it therafter.

Im finding changing the chaff each time seems to help. I use Apple Chaff until the bags finished (about 3 weeks), then use Cherry Chaff. Both chaffs smell really nice and my horses love it and I think the simple change keeps him happy. So far so good anyway! He's on Baileys, the top line cond. cubes. He even wolfs down his supplements with it.

Is he a bad or good doer? If he keeps his weight ok then I would personally try feeding something like Alfalfa although I have heard the odd person say this can send their horse nutty (although none of mine have ever been so!). Id feed it with Speedi Beet. So basically he'd just been on a high fibre feed which will be slow release energy, and most horses seem to eat alfalfa & speedi beet.

Otherwise have you tried splitting it up? I dont know what you feed, but I found when my ned went off his last feed - I put each ingredient in a different bucket so his beet in one bucket, his cubes in another and his chaff in another! He ate it all happily like this for quite a while and I could at least see what he liked the most as he always ate in a certain order (I assume his fave first). I believe some peoples horses can be fussy when its all mixed together! My boy wont eat ANY feed if its TOO wet for example!

recommend Spillers Response Slow Release energy cubes- keeps them sane with lasting energy with Alfalfa and also drop of oil for slow release energy. Mixes would make my horses a bit spooky and loopy!...
