Hi guys!
I'll keep it quick.
My gelding is living in for winter now and has dropped a little weight (not skinny at all but would like a little more on him) He has been off work with an injury and coming back into work over last 6 weeks ish so would like to give him a little hard feed.

What would you recommend? Alfa A and something like pasture mix? Also any supplements?

Also a weird question, who soaks feed which doesn't say it needs to be? I.e chaff and mix?

My boy is on Alfa A, Topspec Balancer and Kiwkbeet. It is the only combination of feeds he will completely finish and licks the bowl clean! Mine is on the Lite balancer as he doesn't need weight gain but you could use the Comprehensive.

As he has kwikbeet I don't add water but if he wasn't having that, yes I would add water.

Can't help with the feed side as I feed for weight control as have a fatty. I feed alfa alfa and baileys low cal and do like to have it nice and wet. I don't soak my feed but do make it very watery and wait for the low to swell before I feed. My horse likes his tea like soup!

I favour barley with plain chaff and unmolassed sugar beet, and yes it's always damp (regardless of sugar beet content).

When my good does was not so good I fed alfa alfa and top spec comprehensive balancer. He maintained great weight and condition but now he needs to loose a few pounds I have put him on the low cal. My friend has her poor does on calm and condition which seems to help.
