Hi My new lad is still a little lean hes an apha ( looks like a muscular TB) 6yr old gelding due to be backed in spring so just a little lunging long lining and walking out for now as exercise mainly a field ornamnet for last 3months due to his bad mudfever and my bad shoulder.
Feed: Scoop unmolassed hi-fi / pro-balance / Scoop Unmollassed sugar beet / Mug of Micronized Linseed / Couple of carrots and a treat ball with high fiber cubes in it at bed time. He is out during the day and suprisingly we do have grass in at night and has a large haylage net (not wet haylage classed as a medium dry so not to sugary barely worse than hay), if hes in arly he has extra on floor and also chuck it in field on bad days.
He eats all his super but probably only eats half for his breakfast as hes impatient and wants out and doesnt matter how long i leave him in to eat he once he stops that it.
He looks liek a fit sporty racehorse but i would of thought given the lack of exercise and the above feed he would have a little more weight on him as he still looks a bit too lean to me but isn't properly underwiehgt and hopefully once spring grass comes though he will fatten up a little. dont get me wrong i dont want a fat horse jsut want him to have a little more coverage.
He is also barefoot with good triming his feet are now looking better he has never been shod but also not ridden either yet. i want to toughen his feet up a bit, he also had a hurendous bout of mudfever which is now under control and am hoping will not come back but am considering these issues in his diet as well so all the above in mind am jsut after any suggestions on tweaks to his diet to achieve what i am looking for. adjustments for when he starts work over spring/ summer (if it ever arrives) and also to keep weight on over winter and rest of year round if spring grass doesnt sort him out also to improve foot and skin quality given BF and mud fever
I will get some help from ym brother at weekend and add pictures opf my beautiful boy and his tootsies as i would really like some cc on his feet and how best to improve them as he has a flaw in one foot due to a slight conformation issue and i fear hes going to struggle with this foot with out boots but curious seeing the lvoely advice on here if hteres more i cna do to improve it.
Sorry for lenghty messgae thank you to all who read and advise :-)
