I am feeding my id x tb 4 year old mare alfa a oil, speedibeet, baileys no4 and barley rings all soaked together ( if I dont soak it she chokes on the baileys no4 nuts) for 12 hours at a time ie make breakfast at tea, make tea at breakfast. I was wondering whether the whole soaked oats thing whether I could add some of those in to my mixture? Also what does flaked maize do? Thanks in advance.

Well im not a nutrition expert, we used to give our old hunter flaked maize to give him more uumph. Think that with the extra fizz it would just burn off the weight. Suggest you ring one of the feed companies and get the correct feed balance for her type, weight and work etc. Good luck.

Flaked maize will indeed put weight on your horse, but it will almost certainly make her very, very fizzy. I once tried them on a very laid back mare I had and it was as if I'd given her crack!! (not that I know anything about hard drugs really!)
The soaked oats diet is GREAT for all horses, but especially bad doers or horses like PF who don't respond well to mixes or cubes (PF got colic from the cubes out here) I can PM you a fact sheet on the diet if you like. You need to supplement it with alfalfa (lucerne) for the calcium, plus seaweed. It isn't at all heating and will not make your horse loony.

i don't know much about feed, but if ur hore is exciteable i would avoid giving her oats, as they have lots of energy things in them and can make them quite difficult to handle because of the hyperactivity the oats provide. sorry if that didnt make sense

maize is heating the only horses that have maize on our yard are bumble and shenida who are 31/33 they dont gte heated on it and it helps them keep weight on

I feed pickle oats and it makes him very slightly faster gives him a bit more oomph but it doesnt have a huge effect on him. Allthough it definetly depends on the horse.

Oats are actually the safest cereal you can feed - lowest in starch and highest in fibre over all the others - maize now is a different matter - rocket fuel!
