I have been informed this afternoon by my nearest feed merchant that all feed is going to be expensive this winter becaus eof the rubbish weather and that Allen & Page is going up by £2 a bag. Anyone else heard this or are they taking the pee!

Serious??? I pay £7.20 for spillers youngstock mix, apple chaff is £4.20 a bag. Cant remember how much the rest are.

Its going to be a tight winter then for us horsey people, with shavings going up, also haylage, now feed - help!!

Not taking the pee, feed prices are definitely going up everywhere I think. I was going to buy some oats, but they've gone up from £5 to £8 in less than 2 years!

Most of the farmers up at home struggled to get the first cut of hay etc in, let along think about growing a second one. Many of the crops were just ruined out right so I'm not surprised that the prices of feed are going up. I'm just glad my horse is on loan!

Oh this is going to be fun. I feed Star on Allen & Page wherever I can because of the vegetarian thing (No I am not a tree hugger, bunnies yes, trees no) and he said they were the worst increases and that's just in the past month.

Luckily I got hay off the field, but I guess all bedding will go up. I certainly don't have enough to last me though. Maybe through to the new year at the most.

Perhaps I need to re evaluate my feeding regime!

Allen & Page won't be the only ones increasing their prices, Unfortunately, it is true. Because of all the ruined crops this year.

Simple systems has gone up as well - about 70p a bag - basically it is because the price of wheat has gone through the roof so unless animal feed prices increase in line with wheat farmers will be ploughing up everything and planting wheat.

We all know that the feed prices have soared because of the bad weather this summer. BUT..... does anyone actually think that they will drop back next year if we have a good summer? Or will the feed companies come up with a reason to maintain the high price?

Our feeds have all gone up - Alfa A was £7 ish last year and this year I'm paying £9.20, Baileys no.4 has gone up from about £7 to £9.90!

I think mine may be switching to a haylage only diet soon!

all the grain prices have gone up in the last year, and wheat (on which most horse feed is based) has almost doubled in that time. soya and barley have also gone up substantially.

i was paying £11 for bags of baileys no6, but have changed the ration to more fibre and oil (alfa a and full fat soya meal) and the inevitable sugarbeet, which halves my feed costs for the winter!

I doubt prices will come down again, their excuse is fuel costs!!!Thats why haylage has gone up round here!!

I buy direct from the manufacturer and they called me last week to say thier feed was going up again on Monday, it went up in September already.

Bailey's Stud Balancer cost me £18 something yesterday! Bailey's Topline Mix was £10.95!!!! Alfa A gone up loads too and even Suger Beet pellets!
I think they are cashing in on it a bit too much!

Bailey's meadow sweet has gone up, so has Dengie hifi and pony nuts. Also hay, bedding....

Worse thing is even if it's a great summer next year you can guarantee the prices won't go down.

Yep - mine have increased by about 20% too!

I really notice the difference because I tend to fill our massive feed bin every two months (about 12 bags) of feed and the bill has shot up. Luckily I bought all my Horsehage in at a very reasonable price, but managed to order too much so now have enough to keep me going to next Christmas!
