Hi i have got a 16.2hh TB Irish X who is 19yrs old. He cribs and suffers with colic so i have been keeping him on a high fibre diet of high fibre cubes with hi-fi senior and when the winter approaches he will get speedybeet. He also gets hay, he doesnt always hold his weight to great and thought with him getting older should i swap the high fibre cubes with something else? If so what would you recommend? Any help would be great thankyou:)

I also have a 19 year TB X. I feed him a high fibre diet and he has always held his weight well. I add ground linseed, cod liver oil and sunflower seeds to his ration. If I were you I would give a feed balancer if funds permit. For some reason they seem to have a better effect than an all purpose powder vitamin and mineral supplement but that's just my opinion. Last year I got a bit skint so had to change from Top Spec feed balancer to Dodson and Hodson equibites. I've noticed I have to give my TB more horse and pony cubes than normal (so maybe not saving so much money after all) and my Irish Draught has lost weight this year for the first time in five years.

You could also look at a higher feed value cube such as Badminton veteran nuggets or a conditioning cube. High Fibre cubes are really just a hay replacer or something to keep fatties occupied.

Thankyou for your reply,i was talking to a friend over the weekend and she recommended conditioning cubes aswell so i will get him a sack off them and see how he gets on. I will also look into the ground linseed, oils and vitamins that can be added. He does get cider vinegar in his water of a nite.
