I'm going to be getting a connemara mare. Apart from hay what would you feed a connemara in medium work? (Riding everyday and competing in summer/autumn)

I am not stalking you but am bored waiting for the farrier:rolleyes:, you need to find a place to move to, decide whether you are going to have it in livery or buy your own place, find the pony, which may be a mare, and wait until this virus is over before even starting to do any of that, feeding the pony is really dependent on so much that any research is pretty pointless even as a way of keeping occupied.

I totally understand, you've been a big help!?

Yes, I will be waiting until the virus is for sure over as it affects equines too.

I heard you feed horses different things according to how hard they work.Of course I'd gradually change it from what they are normally fed but if could you recommend a/some brands that would be helpful!

As above, feed the pony that is directly in front of you when you get it. I have a connemara mare and what she is fed is very different to my friend who has the more sportier type connemara.

As a native tho they will most likely need a very low sugar diet and will most likely be ok on a token pony nut and chaff based diet.

Have a look at hi fi molasses free, hi fi lite, honeychop etc.

molasses free chaff would be best, The Dengie healthy hooves molasses free one is good with some low sugar pony nuts (if In work) but all have the chaff with 100g of baked linseed and 15g of spirulina. I give all of mine that as a base, then add beat to who needs it and add vits or mins to who needs what.... you definitely need the horse first to find out what’s best for them. X

I get it from the healthy horse company but it is human grade so you can shop round for not just horse brands. I would make sure it’s a reputable company though as wrongly made or stored (in the early process) can lead to high levels of lead and Mercury. X
