My boy has just turned 6 and is still growing. He's worked 5 days a week, a mix of schooling, lunging and hacking.
The quandary with his feed is this: when I bought him in December his condition was fair but he needed more muscle and top line so I put him on Calm and Condition, Alfa A Oil, linseed oil plus a balancer. This was ok util he had a grow. Then he went a little ribby and lacking oomph. So switched him onto Weight Gain mix which added the condition back on but gave us too much oomph!
So he's now on ride and Relax plus all of the other bits and we're waiting to see if this is the best option. It is however quite costly and IMO too bulky. He gets four Stubbs scoops a day of mix then the Alfa as well.

Any other options out there that we could try? He tends to be laid back so needs a bit of cereal. Have thought about Copra but not sure how to incorporate it?

Any ideas appreciated

Unless you are feeding 4 times a day that amount of feed will not be doing much good as he is getting too much if that is just split into 2, ideally if feeding a mix, which in my view is not ideal anyway, they should get no more than about a rugby ball size in each feed, so about 1 scoop plus some alfalfa in order to get the full benefit of it digesting properly so the feed is utilised fully. This does not apply to fibre based feeds as they are digested differently so they can be given in larger quantities.

I would probably go back to the original feed as he did well on it with oats added to give some extra if required, if feeding a balancer you dont need the full amount of C&C or of the balancer, so if feeding half the required quantity of C&C you can give half of the balancer OR, in my view the best option, give him a simple fibre based diet of fast fibre/ grass nuts/ alfalfa pellets as the base with a supplement or balancer, micronised linseed and oats, they should get plenty of energy from fibre, oil and grass unless they are really working hard when the oats can be used to top up as needed.
